CANCELLING my BT contract...

Hi,


I'm an international student and signed up to a 18 month BT Home Phone AND Broadband contract around 11 months ago.

I did this as I was expecting to stay in the UK but now I'm leaving next month.

Surely I can cancel my contract without paying the remainder of the contract (or a ludicrous cancellation fee)??? As expected I called and was told no!

The forums say usually the only way to get out is if you a move to somewhere where a phone line/broadband isn't available. If so, surely this is true as BT don't provide where I'm going :)

Yes I can cancel my direct debit and just leave, but I don't want issues with credit if I were to come back to the UK.


Any solutions?

    you will need to pay a proformer for the remainder of the contract
    Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • You committed to the contract for 18 months.

    The fact that you cannot use the services because you're leaving is your decision.

    So you will be held liable for paying for the remaining months.

    If it were the other way around, and you'd committed to 18 months but the supplier simply stopped supplying you after 11 months and breached their side of the bargain, would that be acceptable?

    However, recently, so called early termination fees fell with many suppliers so that the actual cost to exit early reduced significantly, which might play in your favour.

    This has already been answered in another post. Asking it again still won't get you the answer you might prefer.
