Advise on preferred network setting galaxy s2

Hi,
On my old desire s the chap in the shop entered a code *# something and changed the settings as he said it was best for the phone to be searching for a specific network we did not use in the uk. I have since purchased a galaxy s2 and although most of the time it runs on H when browsing sometimes it will go on to 3g and run really slow. I wondered if anyone knew what I could do to keep it on H all the time, or is there an even faster way of connecting by changing the setting. I tried *#*#0011#*#* and although it brought up many choices I am confused what and how to do it. by the way, I am using the phone on the 3 network.
Thanks

The network determins the speed which you get - the location of the phone will cause the symbol to change.
There is nothing you can do.

To get to the test menu on HTC phones you dial *#*#4636#*#* as referenced in this thread:

I'm not sure if this is HTC specific or generic android but if it works for you just be careful what you fiddle with:-)

Thanls, it worked and I changed the settings from 3g/cdma auto to wcdma only everything seems to work, just faster. Is this what should happen, I do not understand the difference

WCDMA is 3G/3.5G(HSPA) only, so if you don't have a 3G signal, you will get nothing.
