Car giving off a sewer like smell!! HELP!

In all probability it's the Cat.
Take the car for a 20 mile motorway trip at 70mph and see if this clears the problem by getting the Cat very hot.
Also, try changing the fuel."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -

Any idea roughly how much that will cost to replace on a 2007 Ford Focus?
I doubt it needs changing at that age. My last car lasted 12 years without the cat being replaced.
As has been said, change the make of fuel you are putting in it and take for some fast runs0 -
The make of fuel... really?
I filled up at a Total garage for the first time the other day..... surely that cant be the problem?
If it is the cat, am I safe to drive it?0 -

You won't come to any harm with your Cat. Try what I suggested earlier - nothing bad can happen."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
I've never heard of fuel making your car smell like a sewer and always use tesco fuel. My husband works in a garage and says it sounds like the Cat0

Years and years ago we had a 1982 Polo and that smelled of rotten eggs. Apparently it was the alternator going wrong and boiling the battery so every time the battery was fully charged it was overcharging it. Absolutely vile smell.0

Doubt it needs changing as all have said, just seems to be doing it's job, just needs a hot run.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

Most likely the cat, as others have said. If so, it's perfectly safe to drive - however, it the cat is damaged, it's possible it might fail the next MOT due to emissions. Don't worry unduly, though, the smell doesn't necessarily indicate a damaged cat, the previous suggestions of trying an alternative fuel / a fast blast up the motorway will often work. I don't know why this is, but I've experienced the same thing in the past, and the smell has always disappeared by itself after a couple of days.0 -
Are you 100% sure your not just parked near a blocked sewer?“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
