Average electricity bill for a 4 bedroom flat

Not enough information. How is the flat heated and hot watered? Those will be the main users of power.
Assuming it's electric only, you need to say if it's standard heating or E7 (though I can't see E7 working in s student flat-you'd be getting up just as the heating runs out at 4 in the afternoon
).
If it's standard panel heaters, then that is the most expensive way to heat a flat-I doubt that £40pw between you will be anything like enough (though of course that £10 allowance continues through the summer, when the bills will be much lower). No free lunch, and no free laptop

gas, water and internet included in the rent!!
the electricity is also included in the rent of 10 p/w by use of a prepayment token..also- the washer and dryer is in another room-so we just pay for it when u needed it!! so will we go over the 10 p/w??
...thanks! 0 -
Is that £40 per month for all 4, or each and therefore £160 a month? If the latter, almost certainly sufficient unless you have a tanning booth and arc lights.
If it's £40 a month for all of you: if you live like typical students, sitting in the cold getting warm by drinking cheap cider around a 60w bulb, then it'll probably easily last. I've worked out that I typically use under £25 per month for electric, but that's not used for heating and have a gas hob. I'm out the usual working week and not exactly profligate with electricity whenever at home alone - no lights left on unnecessarily, energy saving bulbs etc., more out of habit, but the pc and tv are on a fair bit during a typical work night. So if there's four of you, £40 may or may not last, but I'd not budget for not needing to spend more.0 -
Its £40 per month for all 4...the gas, internet and water is included in the rent and washer/dryer facilities are used as and when needed!!..what u think?0

It won't be enough unless you are very frugal with it. I'd estimate £15 per week or £65 p.c.m. Maybe more. Read the meter weekly and change it as you see fit.Its £40 per month for all 4...the gas, internet and water is included in the rent and washer/dryer facilities are used as and when needed!!..what u think?:footie:

You still haven't told us how the property is heated and hot watered-that is the determining factor. If gas heating is included, then yes it will be more than sufficient. No free lunch, and no free laptop

It is gas heated- yes! and watered also. the electricity of 10 p/w is for electrical items only...so thats computers, cookers, fridges, tv, lights etc
I can't adjust the meter as it is by a prepayment token of 10 pounds which is given to us by the accommodation people0 -
Can I just check, are you saying it's a prepayment meter, so if the credit on it runs out you have no electric, but you don't get to top it up yourselves? Instead you pay £10 a week to the letting people who then put that on the meter and hope it lasts for you?
If that's the case then it sounds incredibly dodgy. I'd ask the letting agents for the token and top up yourselves when you need it. What are you meant to do if you run out of credit 3 days before they top it up?
Also, if they're not giving you access to the meter then there could be a debt on it that's owed by someone else or anything of that sort. It smells very fishy...I am an employee of British Gas, however the views expressed on this post are mine and do not necessarily reflect the views of Centrica, its subsidiaries or affiliated companies.0 -
And of course if the leccy goes off, your gas CH will cease to work...No free lunch, and no free laptop

It is by prepayment meter- the letting people put the 10 pound token on for us. the meter displays on screen what the balance is and if it is running low we can top it up ourselves....how does that sound?? still dodgy??:eek:0
