E-on vs EDF

Hello I'm about to pull the trigger on one of the above energy firms switching from BG.

E-on is the saveonline 9 dual fuel, EDF is the fixed saver V2.

The savings are exact at £239 per year including cashback sites (£50 for E-on and £20 for EDF.)

Is the EDF till sept 2012 ABSOLUTELY fixed price i.e they can't up my prices?

I've heard E-on are making an announcment on the 13th regarding prices and this may rise so am leaning more towards going with EDF today and get away from BG asap.

Anyone any advice?

Thanks

  • Worth checking with E.on whether prices being quoted already take account of what is going to happen on 13th - when I look on the website at least the unit prices shown for the product I am on (saveonline 6 - but going to switch to 9 at some point) are as from 13 september.

    Cheers

Yes, Fixed Saver v2 is a fixed tariff, as the name implies. May not be around much longer though. The cashback was £28 only a few days ago.

I need a switch soon and am also interested in either E-on SaveOnline 9 or the EDF fix one. Equally I'm on E-On EnergyOnline and that price hikes on 13th September.

It says on the E-On website:

"With E.ON SaveOnline 9** for the next 12 months your prices will always be at least 2% cheaper than our standard E.ON EnergyPlan prices, based on our prices as at 13 September 2011. So whilst your E.ON SaveOnline 9 prices can change at any time, you'll always know that you're saving."

I'm not really sure if that means the SaveOnline 9 prices quoted on the site are today's prices or prices from the 13th September hike.

I guess the risk with the fix is that if prices fall then your prices don't.

Also note EDF have got a £50 exit charge and E-On is £30 (dual fuel within the contract period) if you would be thinking of switching again before then.

Can I ask how you get the EDF cashback at £28?

Can only find £20 on tcb and quidco.

    Thanks

I said it was £28 a few days back. It has now dropped to £20.
And don't be surprised if you have to raise a non-tracking query, I did.

If it's a dual fuel switch then you can get £30 cashback in going to EDF by switching via Moneysupermarket.com:

    Hi guys

Just thought I would clear this one up.

Saveonline 9 will not be going up on the 13 September. The prices currently quoted on our website will not change on this date.

Saveonline 9 is, though, a variable tariff and will be affected if our prices change again before the end of the tariff. However, we guarantee they will always be at least 2 per cent lower than standard prices for the duration of the contract.

Hope this helps. Give me a shout if anyone is still unsure.

  • ^^ and EDF Fixed Saver V2 is a FIXED tarriff meaning it cannot change for the duration of the contract (sep 2012) so even if EDF put the prices up Fixed Saver V2 will not change before sep 2012.
  • I switched to EDF fixed when i moved house recently....

all i can say is there admin/customer service is really bad,

they keep messing up my payments big time and it takes them on average 10-15 mins to answer the phone regardless of the time of day!! (costing me a fortune in mobile bill) they also don't answer all the messages i send via the net....

i am now waiting for a call back to resolve this once and for all but I am dangerously close to just switching again and paying them the £100 exit fee, thats how pi**ed off I am...

i never had any problems with atlantic!
