Getting out of my Orange contract - doable on these grounds??

Hi everyone

Some advice from you guys would be really really appreciated. I recently had my iPhone stolen. I won't be getting another handset from my insurer, they rejected the claim (working on appealing, but regardless of appeal i still want to leave orange).

Orange say that although i'm on a package titled "iPhone 35", now that I don't have an iPhone handset, they:

- will only sell me a brand new iphone handset, they won't sell me ANY other handset to replace the phone
- will only take payment for the brand new iphone in one lump sum: just not doable for me
- cannot change my plan, even though it's SPECIFICALLY for the iphone and is even called "iPhone", and is way above what i actually use, and includes iphone-specific services
- cannot change my plan even though they understand im paying for services i cannot even receive
- the absolute best they can do, is for me to wait 4 months, for them to reduce my tarriff by a maximum of £5.

This has lead me to do a bit more evaluation of orange and their service to me.

- I *always* end up paying over and above my monthly charge
- I never have any signal; i must leave my office and walk down the street, same at home
- It's a rubbish deal compared to some of the other providers
- They've changed their details about my service plan a few times, meaning without knowing i probably have had changes to what i pay

I 've done research on these forums and know a few years back it was easier to get out of a contract, even just on the basis that the provider makes changes to the price/service plan, but i get the idea recently they've all 'tightened up'..

You guys, can i lean on any of the points above to help, or do you guys have experience in, getting out of a contract on one of the above premises??

this is just horrible and i feel im being ripped off every month without being able to do anything about it

Just buy a PAYG handset you want from Orange or PAYG(Orange)/unlocked/sim-free phone from any other place
    - will only take payment for the brand new iphone in one lump sum: just not doable for me
    It's not their problem.
    - cannot change my plan, even though it's SPECIFICALLY for the iphone and is even called "iPhone", and is way above what i actually use, and includes iphone-specific services
They don't have to change it, but I think they'll be happy to change it to a contract with the same monthly price.

    It's your problem, not theirs.

    - I *always* end up paying over and above my monthly charge
They don't have to, but I think they'll be happy to switch you to a more expensive contract with bigger allowances.
    - I never have any signal; i must leave my office and walk down the street, same at home
No network guarantee reception everywhere. You could have checked this before buying and probably had a cooling off period after.
    - It's a rubbish deal compared to some of the other providers
Why have you bought it in the first place?
    - They've changed their details about my service plan a few times, meaning without knowing i probably have had changes to what i pay
Probably or had? They cannot change it to your disadvantage, especially without informing you.

Only the last point can be valid depending on the details that you have not posted.

BTW, the cheapest PAYG android phones that can use (almost?) all services cost as little as £60ish. Don't know what sort or "iphone-specific services" they charge you for separately.

Strange how none of these manifold issues seemed to bother you at all before you had your phone nicked?
You are not 'paying for services you cannot receive', you simply need a handset to do so. Orange will provide you with a new SIM under your contract.
You think you can void it because 'it's a rubbish deal'? It may well be so, but it's a rubbish deal that you freely contracted to.

Orange will gladly change you onto a different contract of the same or greater price, regardless of whether you have an 'iPhone' or not, it's not their fault your phone got stolen and you could quite easily put your sim into handset. They are providing a service, in the same way that Sky would still be providing me a service if someone stole my television

While I agree with the above posts, on a matter of practicality, if Orange are only prepared to issue an Iphone sized sim, will that work in an Android?

I ask only because I am led to believe that the Iphone sim is smaller than the standard one.

As a byproduct, you will be amazed at what Androids can do at a fraction of the cost of the Iphone.

the iphone 4 takes a micro sim which you can get an adaptor to allow use in a normal phone.

or just buy a second hand iphone
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
