Suitable Reward?

  • Voucher and letter would be my first choice. Don't know why but buying beer doesn't seem the best present for a bus driver. I know he would drink it off duty but seems strange to me.

Maybe 5 lucky dips in a thank you card for the lottery?

A supermarket voucher would enable the driver to pick something that he wants or needs. Accompanied by a card with a handwritten message of thanks from the child whose property the driver handed in.
I believe there's a way of registering iPones and iPads that will enable the owner to discover where they are, but do check this out.

As far as I'm aware there is, or atleast there was on the prototypes which Apple appear to be somewhat careless with, iPhone 4's prototype went walkies and the cops were told exactly where it had been & recently another one (iPhone 5 potentially) with the same result.

Certainly worth registering on Immobilise.com - we did once get a phone back which DS3 had lost on the bus! After months and months and months, and it had been to court with several other 'acquired' items.

However, as for the reward, it may well be that he can't accept anything as a reward, it's sometimes against terms and conditions of employment. So I'd phone the depot and ask if it is OK, because it would be awkward if he turned it down, but definitely write and thank him via his manager at the depot!

Don't worry the 'Thank You' WILL be written by him.....

Thanks for the ideas folks. Will phone depot and ask if he can accept a reward. I know at my work we have to declare any 'gifts'. All going well a supermarket gift card seems in order,

I think a thank you card and a £20 gift voucher for Argos (EVERYONE shops there) would be appropriate. Plus a letter of commendation to the bus company - my OH had a lovely letter sent in to his bosses about how he was so kind and helpful to an elderly person (sent by a relative), and the bosses put it on the notice board, with a little note saying that 'this is the standard of customer care we strive to achieve'. The customer didnt send a gift - but that didnt matter to my OH - he was thrilled to have the letter and a letter from the big boss thanking him.

I think it would also be appreciated to write a letter to the manager of the bus company thanking the member of staff. It is so rare that someone takes the time to acknowledge good service but we always acknowledge the bad!!!

I rang our old bus company once after one of their drivers went over and above the necessary when my DD fell off her seat (she was 3) even though I said to him it wasn't his fault at all, he was fantastic, and the company said they'd put a commendation on his record :)

Actually I rang them twice as way before that I was a horrible sickness bug and got sent home from work, left my phone on the bus and the driver called my mum and told her that I'd lost my phone and he'd put it in lost property and that I looked a bit ill and he hoped I was OK!
