Distance Learning Courses

Options
Not sure if this is the most suitable section but here goes. I'm considering applying for a distance learning course in English language(A level). What I'm after is feedback on any of the companies who provide the courses. I've received some stuff from ICS but after a quick search I've read mixed reviews on them . There are some other options as well although I've not done masses of research yet.

Any info appreciated.

Is their a school or college near you who are willing to allow examinations involving external students ?, you'll need to arrange your own exams and pay for them.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.
  • the best way to do an alevel is with the national extension college http://www.nec.ac.uk

this is a charity and is not like many of these companies that run courses for profit.

I did an A level with them and they are excellent

    good luck

Thanks , I'll take a look at nec. I'm a bit worried about distance learning being out of further education for quite a while, what support do they offer?

Have you tried the Open University - an awful lot of their students get full financial funding and its one of he most respected uni's in the country.

Cheers CIS (by the way I'm also in Gateshaed), just had a quick scan on their site and it seems a bit more advanced for what I'm after at the moment.

The level one courses with the OU are similar to As/A level.

  • I've used NEC too and the course materials were excellent, as was the tutor support. The only thing is it can get quite expensive as you'll need to book and pay for any exams yourself (it isn't included in the initial price).

I gather you can use Tesco Deals vouchers for NEC too, which could be useful.

Hi my son is doing maths and physics with OOL.
Great support, local call telephone numbers to assigned tutors, (who are also examiners!) or you can email them direct anytime. Not easy subjects to do via distance learning, esp physics course work, but they have been great. They tell you what and when its needs doing for exams, its not difficult. Good luck
