Hi,
I am very very new on this site.
I have had several loans with various banks in the past but i have no paperwork at all. I do not know the policy numbers or account numbers. Can i just send a general letter to these banks? I have noted that all the forms require details of dates and policy numbers. I know i have never needed ppi as i have a good works sick and redundancy plan.
Thank you.

Hi There,
you will need bits of information, such as a loan account number. I would drop into your local branches of these banks or call them up. As most are rather helpful with ppi now.
have a little read here & good luck
Hello There,
You can start a complaint if you have your account number. Its easy to do yourself, so i would avoid a claims company. . You can do the complaint over the phone or via letter form, its up to you
to get you started, Look here for info and reasons for being miss-sold your ppi, Most ppi's were front loaded which is a big NO NO so go for it!
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/rec...nsurance#step2
Once you have had a read though and have your reasons. You will need to fill in a consumer complaints questionnaire. Which I would download, have a read though and familiarise yourself with the questionnaire and its layout. The questionnaire can be found here
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/rec...nsurance#step3
the main info you will need to complete the questionnaire is:
Loan account number/numbers OR CC account number/ numbers
start date
finish date
and your reasons
also have a read here for even more information:
http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.u...PPI-forms.html
Then complete the form and send it off. If you ring your bank or CC company they may have a ppi complaint line and can start your complaint for you over the phone but id get as much info ready before phoning them. If you start a complaint over the phone, they will ask the reasons why you felt mis-sold so have all the information ready and be prepared.
simples, hope that may help, good luck

Hi
Thanks for your prompt reply but i do not have the loan policy numbers. I have no intention to go to people offering to do it for you. In fact Lloyds encourage you to do it yourself. Do i send off a form asking for all accounts? I think this would cost £10 per letter and i need to send several and that would prove expensive.0 -

I would get all info together you can, ie. reasons etc then call up the banks in question and ask them, they will hopefully have all these details and can start the complaint there & then. If they cant find details over the phone, drop into your local branch and ask for these loan account details.
If your still without them at this stage then you can go down the route of a SAR request which will cost £10 but you should be able to get this info & start a complaint without having to get to this stage

I have the same problem, we had a ppi with our mortgage (finished paying that over 5 years ago). The mortgage was with the Nottingham building society, I may have some documents with the mortgage account number but cant remember who the ppi was with. I do remember trying to make a claim with them when my ex was made redundant but they never paid out (some clause or other)0

All you need is the account number.
Did this insurance cover both of you for everything,or just the first named borrower?,if it was the first named borrower and the claim was refused for the second borrower, this is why you could not claim.
They will find the ppi,you dont need to tell them who the ppi was with.
Some mortgage ppi is hard to reclaim, hopefully dunstonh or Magpiecottage will see your post and may give you more guidance.0 -

Hi
I have recently received a offer from First Direct for ppi on loans which I think I am quite happy with.
They have also been checking my Credit Cards and have quoted one which I took out with them in 1993. I have no recall of this card and whether or not I actually used it, (I now have another card with them which I do use) amd they claim they are unable to find statements relating to it but have offered me £100 compensation.
Sadly I don't have any statements myself, is there anything I can do please?0 -
I wrote to First Direct regarding a potential claim, including my account number but I have just heard back from them saying they can find no record of my ever having had an account with them. They say they dont keep information indefinately and, according to the Data Protection Act 1998, can destry records over 6 years old. They state that unless I can supply them with more information, they will not entertain my claim. I have some sympathy with that since I am the worlds worst at throwing stuff away when its not relevant. However, I do have the account number and can supply the address that related at the time. Do I need anything else? Am I stuffed because I cant provide copy statements, for example?0

You would be better doing a SAR.

This will cost you £10 but may get you what you need.0
