school transport. state of minibus

My youngest gets taken to school by minibus (primary school) and I am concerned about the state of the bus.
It is old (S reg 1998) and has a lot of rust on it. All the doors have rust, the back door has holes where it has rusted through.
This is a privately owned bus but is contracted by the council for school transport.
What are the regs for school transport??? would the council do anything about this???

Complain to the school and the council , companies that get these contracts should be using roadworthy and safe vehicles but sometimes just put any old thing on school runs get more people to complain and ask the council to come and see it in use as the company may well just show them a perfectly acceptable bus when asked about this..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

A little surface rust does not make the vehicle unroadworthy.0

if you were that concerned you wouldnt allow your child to get in it.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
I wouldn't have classed a hole rusted through the door as 'surface rust' and if my car had a hole rusted through the door I'd be expecting an MOT fail!Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession

I have emailed the council and they have passed onto the transport manager to sort out. Hubby got little one off the bus this afternoon and there are actually holes in the wheel arches where they have rusted.
I need to use the school transport as I am disabled and housebound so have limited funds.0 -
I hope they investigate properly welshsue, keep an eye on that bus!#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

I wouldn't kick up too much of a fuss then, incase they don't have the money to fund a better bus!!!
What a rediculous thing to say....... the bus company have a duty to provide roadworthy vehicles and as someone else said a vehicle with rust holes in it should fail the MOT!#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Tanith a lot of people on this forum think that if you are an employer or a public body that you should be able to get away with anything!0 -
a vehicle with rust holes in it should fail the MOT!
O RLY? - I always thought that rust holes were only a problem if (in the opinion of the MOT tester) they compromised the structural integrity of the vehicle or had sharp, jagged edges that would pose a risk to other road users/pedestrians.0
