I just tried to use my First Trust debit card, as I had also tried many months ago, and came across the same problem.
After a useless phonecall last year with a completely incorrect explanation I wrote to them. I got a letter from travelodge to admit that there was a problem which was being worked on. What I did manage to do today was go into my profile and add my card - but not as a Visa Debit card, as a Visa card, which I assume they are treating as a Credit card and probably charging the appropriate fee. What I think has happened is that the supplier of their system has input First Trust debit cards in the ranges recognised for credit cards. This should be easy for them to rectify but who to ask????0
