I moved to a new area about a year ago, and as soon as i moved here wanted to get an allotment as our new garden is nowhere near as big and i wanted to grow some veg like i used to at our old house! Anyways they told me there was a waiting list & it would be some time before i could get one! Well i had a letter today telling me they have got some new allotment plots & i have the first one- the biggest too! (althoug not as big as the older allotment sites but hey!) I cant wait to get started! Im going to start planning on what to grow- i have a small veg patch in my garden already (and i mean tiny!) What is easy to grow (or relatively easy!) for a first allotment. Now im debt free i want to be fat free too!0

Yay! :j I remember how excited I was to get my allotment last year.
Soon followed by petrified with all the hard work to be done! Though I'm sure if yours is a new plot it shouldn't have too many issues.
I started with potatoes and loads of root veg as it was nice and easy to chuck in the ground and see what worked!
Good luck and have fun anyway.Wandered away from the MSE track for a while but am back and on a mission! Debts cleared nearly £18k. Now to start saving ...0 -
Congrats on the lottie. I would recommend beetroot, peas, beans and lettuce for easy growing. If you have some spare cash nip down to focus and get a plastic green house - 4 tiers there only 13.99. If you pick up some rocket seed or cos lettuce sow them in some compost; )you can pick up cheap modules and propagators from ASDA for 1.79)and leave on a windowsill until they germinate then move them into your greenhouse. When the soil gets abit warmer in March plant them out and by Early May you'll be eating fresh lettuce.
At the momment i've got beetroot, lettuce, leeks, peas in modules in my mini greenhouse waitnig to plant out. Focus or B&Q are doing seed potatoes quite cheaply, get some now and let them chit on a windowcill and plant out shoots upwards at the end of March.
Good Luck! And Happy Growing:T :T0 -
