From your own link it states:

Sellers who state in their listing that they accept certain payment methods must not selectively offer those payment methods to buyers or discourage buyers from using those payment methods.
This means that sellers must always accept payment from buyers through the payment methods they have selected in their Payment Details section of their listing, including PayPal, and must not act in any way to discourage buyers from paying by these methods.

And I suspect saying 'cash on collection only' would be deemed to be discouraging people from using paypal.

Yet their own T&C's say that you can have cash on collection only as long as your payment method is 'payment on collection'

    Payment on collection
How soon am I paid? Immediately. In-person payment methods can include cheques, postal orders, cash, PayPal, or credit card. In your listing, be clear about which of these payment methods you’ll accept.

What they effectively say is that you must offer Paypal as a payment but then they sneak the common sense in for collection only items but don't advertise it.
The information is clearly stated on eBay's payment policy

But the bit you seem to be missing is that you can write whatever you like in your listing. If it gets pulled or not makes no difference someone can still pay you via paypal and when you refund and refuse you will be negged and DSRs slammed.

You can argue all you like and split hairs over what ebay say about asking for cash but it really doesn't matter as no matter whatvPaypal is on the listing.

Why do you have a problem with giving posters the correct information? You in your posts basically imply there is no problems with collection and asking for cash. The thing is you know this to be incorrect so why continue to say it. Yes you can say you have had no problems but to sat it is all hunky dory is a lie.

As I said a couple of posts ago what we do as sellers compared to what is advisable may differ but if you are informed you can judge if you wish to take those risks. The problem with your posts on this subject is you refuse to accept that there are risks. So post as if there is no possible problems asking for cash. Not only is this wrong but dangerous for inexperienced ebayers who if given all the information may not wish to take the same risks as you.

OK, look at this a different way then.

I am a scammer, you advertise cash on collection only, and i obviously pay by paypal (I'm a scammer remember) then exactly what have you achieved? You lose your goods on all your fees when you refund and refuse to sell- you also put your account one step nearer suspension due to the big fat neg and low stars I leave you.

Or, I'm not a scammer but I have a credit card and want to us eit via paypal. You refund my paypal and the scenario is as above- a big fat neg, low stars and lots of fees to pay.

Yes many of us do sell collection only items and personally I accept the risk that someone might pay me by paypal. What I wont do though is tell newbie sellers that they don't have to accept paypal, without explaining the risk to them.

And i will keep saying it. You can still put cash on collection only it doesn't put anybody's account in danger and Paypal is still listed as a payment option. Just because you 'HAVE to offer and ACCEPT Paypal' it doesn't mean you can't put it on the listing..

    Actually, it does.

Paypal have a real bee in their bonnet about "discouraging the use of Paypal" (unsurprisingly since Paypal use makes them money).

I had several listings pulled late last year and sanctions placed on my account (limiting how many items I could list in a given period) because I put "Paypal only (no e-cheques)" on my listing.

I offered Paypal, in fact my listing said I would ONLY take Paypal and my listings were pulled and my account restricted because eBay reckoned that by saying "no e-cheques" I was discouraging people from using paypal. I just wanted to avoid having to wait for an e-cheque to clear.

I contacted them. I argued with them. I pointed out that I stated I ONLY accepted paypal so HOW could I be disuading anyone from using it? They refused to relent however and I've not listed anything on eBay since. I occasionally buy things if I can't locate them elsewhere but I hardly use eBay at all now.

So advising people they could put "cash on collection only" is incorrect and would definitely risk the auctions being pulled and the seller's account being restricted.

Personally, I think ebay have gone way beyond what is reasonable in their charges and they side pretty much every time with buyers, offering sellers virtually no protection, and now they are getting away with telling people how they must accept their payments. How they get away with forcing sellers to accept options they are not happy with, and which risk them being scammed, especially as those options are ones which they benefit financially from, and which disadvantage the competition, I do not know.

I always say personal collection is welcome and I always give cash as an option.
  • I don't really know why you are worrying.why not just put them on gumtree and give them away for free?

  • Some posts say not to let buyers use their own couriers, thats totally wrong. When selling, you set the rules. Picked up by other courier, you supply contact numbers and arrange time. No wasted time waiting in. Payment is how you want to be paid. As for arranging your own courier for a novice, that is just mad advice. Courier prices are a minefield and it takes time to find the best prices and deals. Millions of items are sold daily on EBay and the scams are a minority thank heavens. Lets not scare sellers off. It is all about common sense and using it.
