collection items on ebay

I have just bought a flat and found that the previous occupant has left two pieces of furniture behind that I now have to get rid off.
If I ebay them, what is the advice in regards to collection please?
Collection is the only option as they are large and cannot be posted or couriered.
However, I know that collection can be problematic. I belive that the buyer can pay through paypal, collect and then claim it wasn't received, as their is no way of proving receipt and paypal will refund. I think the seller is forced to offer paypal as a means of payment so cannot insist on cash on collection.
Can any one advise me on the best way to proceed?
thank you

Just risk collection only and mention in the auction that cash on collection is accepted. Worse case scenario is the paypal on collection scam, and furniture is not an item that is usually scammed.
If you don't want to risk it then just try Gumtree.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. £100 for courier to deliver upto 10 miles, Or cash on collection for free. Over 10 miles please enquire before bidding
as the only courier company you can find is lazy and expensive.
Local supermarket or shop got a sale board?
Large items sometimes sell for 99p, Unless its something valuable or collectable.
I bought a proper wooden coffee table off ebay 99p, Seller also had a large old wooden
cabinet and a matching chest of drawers both sold for 99p each.
He said if they didnt collect i could have them for free, But i did not have the time or space to put them.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Just stick 'cash on collection only' on the auction. Yes you have to offer Paypal as a payment option but there's only a small percentage of people who'll pay by Paypal but it doesn't mean you can't stick cash on collection only on the auction.
If they do pay by Paypal, just leave the money in Paypal for a while in case they do raise a none delivery complaint. you're selling furniture that was left by the previous owners rather than family heirlooms so all you'll lose is listing and the final value fees.0 -
You can mark delivery as collection only or they can arrange own courier to pick up. Just put all options in description. You can accept paypal as payment with on collection option. Same applies to gumtree. There are some very cheap couriers out.0

You should never allow a buyer to arrange their own courier.
The OP doesn't want to use paypal for a collection item.0 -
I'd just risk it to be honest. Worst case scenario is that they claim it wasn't received and you just go to Paypal and dispute it - print an invoice from eBay or Paypal and have them sign it when they collect - this can then act as your 'evidence' to Paypal. Either way you'll have got rid of the stuff and will have avoided the costs associated with disposing of it yourself!
Good luck!0 -

Neither ebay or Paypal would accept that as proof.0 -
As Soo says, though, this is unlikely to happen with furniture. It seems to be high-ticket items like TVs or baby items like buggies that have problems.
I think, however, that since your market is likely to be local, a free-ad, shop window or Gumtree is going to be a better and less risky alternative and it's cheaper as well. Not many people are going to travel across the country to buy some old furniture, so you don't need the national exposure eBay gives you. This isn't an eBay owned site so it's perfectly permissible to say that eBay is not the best venue for this kind of item.
And, SG, you've been told often enough, on eBay you HAVE to both offer and ACCEPT Paypal. Please don't spread misinformation, it will only put other people's accounts in danger if they take your advice. If you could do what you're suggesting there would be no problem with this scam."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

4 large wheels and tyres picked up by buyers own courier and an exhaust system by another buyer paid through paypal, then picked up in person same week. Sorry, been on EBay for years and only post advice I have done.0
