A unified way to develop applications across all of those platforms opens up a massive consumer base that no other company can match. It's a move that is far from pointless.
I see the point, absolutely, but the different hardware is still implemented in distinctly different ways, which requires distinctly different interfaces. A tablet interface on a PC is more of a restriction than it is useful, because you become limited to what fits on the screen once it's made bigger, and more spaced for a chubby finger to poke, than when you can accurately used the mouse cursor. Just the same as the iPhone limits you to 5x4 icons on the home screen, while a stylus based interface can allow things to be smaller and closer together; a PC and mouse setup allows for more accuracy again.
However, as long as I can revert back to Windows Classic theme, I may give it a go... I also object to all the graphics used in OSs as these tend to slow some systems down. At least when an OS is designed with a system in mind (like iOS) or when the tablets are designed with an OS in mind (generally the case) then you always have the same system resources left over for all applications and there's no detriment. When you bring out a new OS for PC users, it should use the bare minimum of resources, because the systems it can be used on vary wildly.Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0 -

apparently, win 8 will not require a higher spec of machine to run on -- existing win 7 specifications will suffice, say MS. Thanks MS  ;)BLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? OR THE MORNING? OH, FORGET THIS MALARKEY!

I still prefer XP to tell you the truth, although 7 is excellent. Previews I saw for 8 looked awful, total copycat of Apple's iOS; not a bad thing in itself, but at least come up with something original of your own...
What part looked like iOS? I don't think it looks at all like iOS - Microsoft have a pretty unique style with their 'Metro' design. Even a lot of tech blogs that are pro-Apple give them credit for it.0 -
I wonder how Microsoft will advertise Windows 8 then?
I'd hope it is a better campaign than the current bland 'woman comes home to find her front room looks like Dixons'0 -
I suspect -- even on new machines -- with business models esp. HP/ Dell etc. will allow users the option to 'downgrade' to win 7 -- as they did with win 7/ xp pro.BLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? OR THE MORNING? OH, FORGET THIS MALARKEY!
