Samsung Galaxy S cannot connect to network

I have recently bought a used Samsung Galaxy S from ebay, and unfortunately it isn't working properly, and I have been told that you guys are the people to ask.
Essentially the problem is that it cannot make or recieve calls or text messages, or anything else such as using 3G internet. Other features such as the camera and wifi work perfectly. When I try to make a call I get the message "mobile network not available".
The phone is unlocked to any network, and even so, I have tried with various different working SIM cards on various different networks. I have also tried switching all the data and network settings on and off as well as doing factory resets and firmware updates.
Has anyone ever had a similar problem or could anyone offer any advice?
Thanks,
lanis

Go to your network's website and look for settings for this phone or any android.

The only time I have had that message on my Galaxy S was when I was porting numbers. After the port was complete, my OLD sim gave that error.
Are you sure the phone is not blocked/blacklisted?

  • Sounds like the handset is blocked to me.
Have I helped? Feel free to click the 'Thanks' button. I like to feel useful (and smug). ;)

    Not unknown:

    1. Sell on ebay
    2. Report lost/stolen
    3. Claim on insurance
    4. Network block phone

  • Thanks grumbler, but I had already tried (unsuccessfully) to manually enter the settings. As for it being blocked, yes that does look like a possibility. I am in contact with ebay about it.
    Thanks

Does sound like stolen phone if you cant even make a call but from memory I rember you to have to up a google account on the phone or most of the stuff dont work but cant rember if phone side works without logging into google account.

If it can make calls then its not blocked
