  • I use gmail now because of issues with hotmail being hacked multiple times. My friends hotmail was also hacked and someone sent loads of evil messages to all her friends. I don't recommend them.

Maybe unrelated but I was having problems with hotmail when trying to use it with IE8 and Windows 7 operating system for some reason. I tried accessing it using Chrome and its fine. Worth a try?

Thanks for replies everyone, had thought I was going mad!

Tried with Chrome and got the same issue.

I then went out, at the end of the day was passing an internet cafe, just thought I'd try and it seemed to let me access my mail! Still having issues but these issues it had been having for over a year (you delete emails and the page refreshes...email not been deleted. You have no idea how frustrating this is!!)

Am going to move to gmail.

And if I do get an account, does anyone know if its possible just to get everything from hotmail sent straight through to gmail without logging into hotmail?

You need to log in to Hotmail to import contacts and saved emails, https://mail.google.com/support/bin/static.py?page=guide.cs&guide=25413&topic=25415

If you then set Hotmail to forward your mail to Gmail, you can log out of Hotmail without any problem. I refused Gmails offer to collect new emails because it only lasts 30 days and I want longer than that to be sure I'm doing the right thing.

The process was completely painless for me. All my emails were transferred inside 30 minutes and forwarding has worked perfectly.

Gmail doesn't import spam, understandably, and Hotmail doesn't forward it, so I'm still checking my Hotmail junk folder occasionally just in case something slips through.

    Only just spotted this thread...

I had a problem with hotmail ALL day yesterday!! I got really peed off with it!!

Logged in this morning and had about 60 emails come through at around 1am.. so I guess this is when they finally fixed the problem!!

not happy and seriously considering switching to someone else!!
  • Gmail is great. I also have a Yahoo account, but I use my Gmail to pick up the messages. :D

  • i'd open a gmail account (easy peasy)and get your old hotmail account to forward all your emails...

i love gmail. way better than hotmail, geat system to star impt emails and no annoying flash ads to slow you down.

Me and OH have these problems with Hotmail at work, but it's fine at home. Strange.

My friend phoned earlier and she's having problems but according to their site, via the link in this thread, they resolved it at 3am this morning.Obviously not.
  • GMail is great

However I still use an old hotmail account as do my parents - quite often lately it is slow or you get the 'sorry we couldn't connect to hotmail right now' error message!
