natsplatnat - You're right about the birthday. I have already budgeted £50 from my own salary anyway and she has million. So with £50 I can get her 1 big toy I wanted to treat her too and a few books etc. to wrap. Family are all spending a fortune on her so she isn't missing out! Thank you for making me feel less guilty!

You're more than welcome! I have just seen sooo many people get sooo wrapped up in their littleys' 1st birthday that common sense seems to leave them..... one I remember involving canapes and champagne!!

I love a good plan - it may not work.... but I love a good plan!
  • canapes and champagne?? I don't get that. Some of my Mummy friends have little one's first birthday's around the same time as my little one and they are having a buffet, alcohol, a bouncey castle etc. or taking them and 10 friends or so to a play centre at £7.00 a head. No chance. Family and friends will be invited round at the weekend and I will make some sandwiches and snacks for the kids but that's it. We simply can't afford it.

My sister was asking me today what I'm doing for her birthday/Xmas and when I said I was only spending £50 on each she was shocked and said she is spending at least £200 each time on each of her kids (1 and 4). So I do feel a bit guilty but this year LO doesn't know any better and I can save up for the Playstation 6 and iPad 9 or whatever she wants when she's older!

mummyroysof3, I think I will mention to OH that we will spend less. Maybe pick 1 gift each at a tenner and a nice card. And we can cook a meal together or something. I have budgeted £50 for the little one's birthday as there's a toy I've been wanting to get her for ages at £30 (Fisher Price Sit-To-Stand giraffe) and will get some books and little toys from Poundstretcher or somewhere.

    Eeek. Lots of changes!

Little one has been ill so I got NOTHING done over the weekend.

My sister has decided than from after Christmas she won't be able to watch LO on a Wednesday which leaves me completely stuck for childcare. I can put LO into the local nursery but it would cost me £184 a month. Losing a day's work each week would only cost me £220 a month. Plus I have travel costs of £10 per day so it makes more sense just to drop a days work as in reality I would just about break even for the extra day! I have requested work drop m days to just Thursday and Friday but I don't know what they'll say. I feel awful and very nervous about what they'll say as they bent over backwards to find me a part-time position Weds, Thus and Fri and now I'm asking to change it :-(

I also applied for a working from home position just in case but I would rather keep my existing job!

So my new salary is going to be around £520.

And OH had a fall out with the boss today and packed his job in. Our baby was very ill over the weekend so OH had to miss some work and got a row, a long with not getting the pay he was promised, being owed money from months back, working 60+ hours a week, on call 24/7 and them generally taking advantage of his hard working nature he'd have enough this morning.

He starts a new job tomorrow which is higher hourly rate but sensible hours, no weekends and no on-call. It's exactly what we need! He'll be earning the same as an average month at his old job but...

It's WEEKLY paid (he'll be making around £300 each week) How on earth will we manage? He has put his share into the joint account until 28th Oct. His first pay will be next Friday. How do we work this out? I'm guessing he needs to be giving me £200 a week and if it's a 5 week month he just keeps the extra wage? xx

    Damn it!!!!!

    Ruined things.

First week I did great. Got the shopping at just £60 and then had a no spend week. This week I've ruined it all, I was really relaxed about everything since we did so well last week and we've already spent £150 in just this week and we aren't going to manage until end of week without spending more. I need to put petrol in the car and pay back that tenner my Mum lent me in the first week. I included an extra carton of milk and loaf of bread in the shopping so I won't need to spend any more on food. We are missing a couple of things but it's only until Friday when our new budget starts again so it should be okay.

So if I say we spend £170 in total this week and £60 last week that puts us at a total spend of £230. Meaning our remaining budget for October is £170. If I can just stick this week out and get a grip on things again I can easily do it with spare left over.

So I need to slow down and take it easy!!

I have some extra food in now which means that I can reduce next week's shop to £50, I can also reduce next week's petrol to £10 only seeing as I'm not working. Tobacco is still going to cost an extra £10 though, we really must give that up soon! So that's £70.00.

I will see how I get on before thinking about the week after!

Haven't spent any more since my last message thank goodness. Going to visit Mum tomorrow so will give her her £10 and put £10 petrol in which takes my total monthly spend up to £230.

I will make up for it with a low spend week next week!

Meal plan for the rest of the week to avoid buying more food -

    Wednesday - Chicken Fajitas
    Thursday - Pork Skewers
    Friday - Cottage Pie
    Saturday - Pizzas
    Sunday - Roast Gammon

    Today's things to do -
Get breakfast with the little one then get dressed and ready for the day
Get the little one down for a nap
Put washing on airer to dry
    Put new wash on
Put the dishes away and do any new ones
    Quick clean of kitchen
Get lunch with the little one
If it's dry get the little one and the dog out for an hour
Ironing while the little one plays
Relax and have a nice mug of coffee and watch some Roswell while the little one has an afternoon nap
Spend 1 hour quality time with the little one
    Dinner for the little one
    Prepare myself and OH's dinner
    Eat dinner with OH
Shower and get organised for tomorrow
