hiya as i had so much help with my word problems here is another one for you!
i am with BT Broadband and Free-view and it's expensive and rubbish.
it's v slow, and continually says broadband cannot connect the connection was`reset. 9about every 10 ins).
the freeview says the signal is not strong enough and often won't record or show channels.
the phone constantly drops out.
i've contacted BT and after checks told me to fit new filters on the phone line or for £140 they would come to look!! joke! i fitted them and changed the phone but no change.
any ideas what i should do??
there must be probs with the phone line in general as I'm in the sticks and bt are constantly at their metal-box in the village.
thanks in advance.

Freeview is nothing to do with BT or your broadband connection. Are you talking about BT Vision?
If your Freeview signal is weak then you need (most likely) a better aerial or cabling. That is your responsibility to sort out and not BT's.
The on-demand side of BTV is supplied via your ADSL broadband connection and requires a minimum line speed of about 2MBps. What speeed does your line support?

Do this test connected to the BT text socket (behind the master socket split faceplate) by ethernet, not wireless. No free lunch, and no free laptop

When you state this is this your ordinary phone dropping out? on voice calls?surfsister wrote: »any ideas what i should do??
Basically you need to confirm whether the problem is your side of the master socket or theirs.
If its their side you can call them out and they'll fix it for free
If its your side and you call them out you'll have to pay the £140+, and still possibly need to fix it yourself.
Find your 'master' socket, unscrew the lower section of the faceplate to expose the test socket (this disconnects all your internal wiring )
Plug one thing into the master socket and see if the problem is still there0 -
excellent thanks yes I mean the vision service it used to be OK until the digital took over. I have a huge airiel set up maybe it needs moving around?
thanks0 -
As already explained, digital switchover has nothing to do with your BT Vision service. If the problem is with Freeview reception then this is your issue to resolve. if the problem is with the on-demand service then you should speak to BT.No free lunch, and no free laptop

the connection was reset message seems particular to the BT broadband service i find: often it's a problem at their end of the exchange and/or a router problem. it is annoying though as u have to close down and exit all browser sessions and then restart. if it's continually happening -- speak to BT about it (a possible exchange problem); and if the router is playing up then I would demand a new one -- I've seen this happen with some of the BT Home/business routers/.BLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? OR THE MORNING? OH, FORGET THIS MALARKEY!

great help thanks yes it sometimes happens every 10 mins and i have to close down exactly as you state. I've had a new modem after months of phone calls and emails but no change. also the phone drops out continually, also a bt service.
maybe I'll bug bt a bit more then!0 -
First thing to do; if you've got new micro filters, do what JasX said in post 3 but disconnect EVERYTHING from the phone sockets apart from your broadband. Even any extensions in other room so the only thing connected to your phone line is your broadband router / modem. If it still does it, you've pretty much narrowed it down it being a BT issue; although I know somebody who had a similar issue a few years ago and it turned out he'd forgotten about a phone that was plugged in, in a different room without a microfilter.0

yes have done this with a bt chap on the phone and it was all ok.
So may still be a BT problem - they are forevere at the metalbox in the village with a van.
I'll email them again.
If I change suppliers it wouldn't help would it as still BT line?0 -
But was this from the test socket?
If your phone is dropping out (when is it dropping out-independently of the broadband?) then you need to report a line fault (not a broadband fault), as that is the cause. An OR call out is only chargeable if the fault is downstream of the master socket, or is user-inflicted upstream of it, or if it's on your equipment or set up.
A local loop fault will be there regardless of which supplier you use.No free lunch, and no free laptop

yes it was thanks for the help so early too!
the whole thing is a pain. The phone drops out when the modem lights go out and the connection drops out I've seen it happen -embarrassing as the person at the other end of the line thinks you've cut them off!!0
