meh, I know enough to know that most (if not all) people wouldn't just 'buy a DSLR for the hell of it to take photos', which when reading:
    I really REALLY want one...lol
I'm definitely getting one for ... well, I dont know why, cause I want it
is definitely the impression I got, since most people would at least know why they needed or wanted a DSLR before they bought one,
but hey if the OP want to spend their hard earned money on it then fine, who am I to try to offer money saving advice on a money saving forum by trying to demonstrate that a DSLR is way more complex than just a simple point and shoot, who cares if I got a term slightly wrong, my point still stands.

hey perhaps the OP just wants it for an ornament

I bought a DSLR in order to learn how to use it. My previous experience was a 4 hour trip in Scotland with a pro photographer who taught me basics and got me shooting on my own. I bought a Canon 10D with a basic lens for £200 (second hand) and have used it for a year now. I have bought the Canon 50mm fixed focal length lense, which is amazin, and I am looking to buy the Sigma 10-24mm (i believe) lens for wide angle shooting. I read books on photography and watch pros on youtube and am slowly slowly learning. But the only way im changing from a point and shoot photographer to a creative photographer is by having a DSLR and practicing. So i would advise the OP to go for it, i would recommend buying a 2nd hand camera first if unsure of ability like i did, but if they already know they want to do it and can do it then why not buy a 550d?
  • I bought one because I "wanted one" and it never leaves my side (except for when working/gym/obvious reasons).

*kat* my first advice would be, get what you want, but your first lens should be this Fantastic piece of kit for the lens and every budding photographer should have a 50mm (it does feel cheap.. but the quality is better than the kit lens).

Next advice would be to buy these books I've had my camera for well over a year now and bought the books recently... wish I had bought them sooner, some awesome tips in there!

Also if you do have any photographer friends, then they are an invaluable asset! My OH's brother in law is a wedding photographer and he's always giving me tips about what to get, how to take certain photo's etc!

    :D
:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!

    Canon 7d, 60d, 550d 600d 1dmkiv
All have grainy images at iso 200+
The noise is acceptable beyond Iso 1600 because you expect it but from a professional point of view it is unacceptable to have pattern noise in J-peg output images at iso 200, 400, 800
