You could call the Dogs Trust in Liverpool. http://www.dogstrust.org.uk/az/b/benefits/default.aspx

Really though, this is the kind of thing you should plan for before you get the dog, can you afford to pay full price if you need to?

Agreed, this cost should be budgeted for before getting a dog.

OP, presumably you have a vet where you take your dogs for their annual jabs and any problems that crop up? Go and see them, explain that you have two dogs who need spaying, and ask if you can pay in instalments. Most vets will be sympathetic to a regular customer.
  • yeah i did think of it and can do it but i thought if there was any help available it would be helpful!

Dogs Trust used to have an assisted neutering scheme in certain areas of the country- presumably where dog welfare was a problem generally. The person had to be on benefit to qualify.I don't know if it is still available.
They also used to give out vouchers to the smaller rescues but I know that scheme was axed a couple of years ago.

You could ring around your local vets and ask what the charge is for spaying- there is quite a difference in prices between different vet practices in the area where I live. Weight of dog influences the amount of anaesthetic used so the larger the dog, the dearer the price!
Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Theres help available, but only for people that actually need it. To be eligible you need to be in receipt of certain benefits.

Claiming for assistance from these already streched charities when you have no real need to is a disgrace. If you claim to be able to afford the upkeep of your dogs, then pay for it yourself. You could be taking the money away from someone that actually deserves and NEEDS the help.

    Disgraceful. And selfish

That's a bit OTT, this is a moneysaving site after all and the OP is a newbie. Not everybody is aware of how much pressure these charities are under, I wasn't until fairly recently.

OP, if you are in receipt of one of the benefits that make you eligible for a Dogs Trust voucher, feel free to claim it with no guilt, you are who they are for after all.

There is a difference between being able to pay the regular monthly costs of food and insurance and being able to get your hands on several hundred pounds all at once for an op.

As you pointed out in your post earlier, these things should be factored in when deciding to get a dog. Spaying/nuetering is definitely something that needs to be accounted for.

It was the first thing we did with all ours when they reached the correct age.

I pointed it out and checked that she could afford it without help, I didn't chastise the OP and call her disgraceful. Save that kind of vitriol for the owners who don't bother at all please.
