I live in a block of 4 apartments,at the bottom of the stairs, the's a window (which my bloody chav neigbours leave open to dry their washing which they hang on the landing I share with them, the fact that no one can get to the lines as they've not cut their lawn for over 3 years is another rant) so nearly every day at the bottom of the stairs the's a pile of charity bags & junk mail, just thrown thru the window.Quite often now you don't get any bags but a sticky label so you now have to supply your own bags for the collection.

Actually I think you're mistaken. Sounds perfectly clear to me that your downstairs neighbour is actually leaving their clothes on the landing as a donation to the charities who are leaving all the bags lying around! They're just not doing it quite right. So next time this happens, simply pop the clothes in one of the bags, lob it on the doorstep and hey presto, that's two good deeds done in one!

Don't thank me - I'm always happy to help!

No Charity Bags signs into Polish i.e. bez torby miłości !

    Google reckons that's
"without a bag of love" which does sound like a nice translation of charity bag...but on the other hand could be a contraception method?:p

I'm really sick of all the charity bags too, no one has that much rubbish, let alone good items. It's a waste, both the plastic and charity resources.

I probably get one bag a week ... I always get excited when I find a bag on my mat because it means I have a bag for my cardboard recycling.

My main reasons for not filling the bags is that I don't trust my donation to go where it matters. Its been reported that a lot of the charity bags filled with donations get stolen and the charities have to go out earlier and earlier to try and collect the donated goods before someone else does.

Also some of the bags I have had through my door - as others have mentioned - its not proper charities and if you read the small print - they sell the clothes for profit

I also like to choose who I support and like to share my donations where possible.

I have just had 4 "charity" bags put through my door in 4 hours. It now seems I can't go one day without these bags appearing on my floor. I also have the Martin's Money Tips No Cold callers sign and am still answering callers "offering" advice. My husband is a shift worker & these constant bombardments from unsolicited bags/callers (the racket they make coming through the letterbox as we have a sprung loaded wind flap over the slot) is causing him real sleep issues. Short of taping up the letterbox and setting the dogs on the cold callers (only kidding they carry the plumbers tool bag round for him when he calls, we always said if we were robbed they'd help the burglar out with our stuff! LOL) what can I do?
Okay spleen well and truly vented .... deep breath.... calm now!

  • I have read posts telling us to use them as rubbish bags but I don't have enough rubbish to fill the number of bags that come through the door! I did think of saving them up and posting them back to the various companies and charities without a stamp but I thought that might be a bit tight.

Until now my council have not taken any plastic in the recycling collections but from this week we have a new silver bin to put all recycling itmes. Guess where the charity bags are going now :rotfl:

My neighbours have a wallmounted postbox accessed by a key near their front door could this be any good for you?
I can't help with the callers though!
I too am a shift worker and the sight of me when I have just woken up is enough to scare most of them off!
