Charity bags Q
Comments

There was an article recently about the small amount the charities may receive, however, the charities seem to appreciate any money they receive and so some overlook the way it is obtained. I suppose taking it directly to a shop is one way, though I do wonder if they just ring up one of those companies and have them collected.0

At one stage we were getting about 2 bags per week! Since we have about 10 charity shops in town (can't remember exactly as the total changes regularly!) I would rather take whatever I have to a local shop. All our shops are on the 'upmarket' side so every thing else goes to the McMillan shop in Mablethorpe. If it is saleable- they sell it and have a great income.(Their motto seems to be cheap, cheerful and quick turnover!)
The empty charity bags are never collected. I often pick them up in the street. A friend of mine sells loads of stuff on e-bay and the bags and their wrappers are recycled as packaging! She is always grateful.Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Some of these companies give 5p in a pound to a charity.
 Some give nothing.
Always give direct to the charity (in their shop) wherever possible.
Failing that, make sure collection is a genuine collection and make sure you bag is picked up by a genuine collector.
You would not believe how much money there is in 2nd hand clothes. Either as rag or selling 2nd hand.0

We had someone pick up a load of bags of clothes yesterday from us,they weighed em on the van and gave us the cash they pay 50p a kilo which we thought good, better than going in the clothing bank.0

I find the bags useful as it saves me having to buy bin liners. I have a whole stack of them at the moment which should last me a while.Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

Second hand clothes is worth much, much more than 50p a kilo.
First of all they sort out what can be sold as clothes.
Whatever is left over is sold as rag.
Suspect they could make around £10 a kilo.0

We receive at least one bag every day. Most days, we'll get several. On Friday, five were on my doorstep by the evening.
I've given up returning them as 99% are never collected after being put on the doorstep (and blown around the front drive by the wind).
On the rare occasions that we do have clothes to give away, I always put them in the Hampshire & IOW Air Ambulance collection at my local Tesco.0

Do not give unless the bag has the charities registration number on . Even if it says something like british heart foundation,it is very likely a clever copy of the original.Even if you leave it out, scammers are following the legitimate vans and picking the bags up before they can get to them.
The collection company needs to be registered with the council for door to door collections. I take my charity stuff in in two bags. One that may be saleable, the other I label "rags",eg things with holes or marks or scruffy. The charities still make money from the rags.I ALWAYS take it direct to the shop,as they are getting lots of scammers putting fake bags through peoples doors. If yo are sure you have a fake bag,let the Police know0

I get so sick and tired of opening my Porch Door and having to wade through a mountain of Charity Bags that as well as placing a 'No Cold Callers' Sign near to my doorbell, I've also stuck a large 'Please NO Charity Bags' sign across my Letterbox. I've still had a few bags left as the local collectors are obviously just a bunch of illiterate 'Numpties'. Now I email the various Charities represented and request no further bags. Most have been apologetic and polite except for the NSPCC who replied back saying that my address would be quote 'Blacklisted'. This is not a very nice word to use and as I found it extremely offensive, sent an email back expressing my feelings. This was ignored !
A couple of tips I have been told about.....the bags could be re-used as kitchen bin bags, or collect up a bundle and stuff them into another Charity bag and leave out for collection. It's also been mentioned that there are some Polish/East European Collectors out there so may be work translating any No Charity Bags signs into Polish i.e. bez torby miłości !0

I live in a block of 4 apartments,at the bottom of the stairs, the's a window (which my bloody chav neigbours leave open to dry their washing which they hang on the landing I share with them, the fact that no one can get to the lines as they've not cut their lawn for over 3 years is another rant) so nearly every day at the bottom of the stairs the's a pile of charity bags & junk mail, just thrown thru the window.Quite often now you don't get any bags but a sticky label so you now have to supply your own bags for the collection.0
