Cheaper than 01/02/03 calls for 5p each regardless of duration using 18185?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

No. I think you’ve been reading things in my post that I didn’t write!
Primus used to be very competitive supplier for international calls placed through ‘gateways’ like Budgetcom (a Finarea subsidiary). For example, Budgetcom will carry a call to Australia for 0.5p per minute, as against 2p per minute through 18185 (another Finarea subsidiary). Twelve months ago, an eight-minute call to Oz would cost 4p plus VAT through Primus/Budgetcom, and 20p through 18185. This is quite a substantial difference, but it has now been wiped out because Primus are applying a 10.8p (9p plus VAT) connection charge on any paid-for call, making short calls more expensive than through 18185.
I have therefore come to the conclusion that BT’s International Freedom is the best way for me to buy international calls at present – the package includes 600 minutes per month to virtually all the international destinations I call.
If I no longer place international calls through Primus, what is the remaining advantage to maintaining a CPS contract with them? Basically just UK calls between 6pm and 7pm, and between 7am and 8am. These are really so few in number that the benefit is not worth the labour of having to check one more bill and one more DD each month. Hence my lead comment yesterday -
I wonder whether staying with Primus (New Call) on a CPS package is such a great benefit these days.0
