904 liner costs

Hello, we are looking at getting a multifuel burner installed and so far have had 2 quotes for ripping out old gas fire etc. Both mention 904 liner but 1 quote says it will cost £1100 and the other says £550 are they talking about the same quality? are there any questions we should be asking about it?
Background info - Terraced house 1902, burner will be 5W
Thanks

There are two standards for 904 liners.
904/904 and 904/316.
904/904 is the most expensive of the three types (there is a 316/316).
How wide a flexible flue liner do you need 5", 6" or larger (based on 5KW i assume a 6" liner with an adaptor to a 5" stove pipe)
The 5's normally about £35/40 a meter and the rest aren't that much more (although I've seen some places trying to charge up to £80 a meter for it).
So yes there are two different types of "904" liner.
Does the quote also include the cost of the flue liner fixing packs, insulation, register plate etc? or are they purely quoting a cost for the liner?0 -
Although liners are made of the same 904 or 316 material they may not be constructed in the same way. Some samples I have seen were quite flimsy in comparison to a quality constructed liner. As you live in a terraced property I guess the liner will be approx 10 Meters or so. A 10M length of 6" Liner of good quality would be around £440, so I am guessing your quote must be just for the liner. The installer may receive a trade discount on these prices of course.
This site http://www.ncc-flue.co.uk/main.asp?shopid=1 sells good quality Rite Vent liner IMHO ( I purchased my liner from there) so may be worth a look at for more information and price comparison. The 20 year liner is the 904 version. You should receive a registration form with your liner to register the date of install etc. This is posted to the manufacturer to provide your guarantee.

I think we both kind of agree that about £450 is about right for just the liner itself (assuming 10M).
This was why i was trying to work out if the £1100 quote also had other things along side it.0 -

Yes I agree. A bit more info would be helpfull.
If someone was quoting £550 ish for a full install I would be worried. As you suggest the £1100 quote may be for everything to fit so may not be a like for like quote. If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you! :dance:0 -
Hi All, Thanks for the replies. I don't have the quotes here with me so I will check when I get home. The quotes we have are for ripping out old fire and full install of the stove (inc stove cost) quote 1 - £3471 quote 2 - £2835. Sadly the quotes only say 904 so I dont know if they are 904/904 or 904/316. But maybe that would explain the difference0
