I'm guessing the Old Card was lost and you got a replacement. Did you cancel the old card? If not, give that a try, perhaps your bank can see still how many cards are active on the account even if they cannot access the number itself. He'll be in for a nasty surprise next year as Microsoft have been known in the past to Lock accounts to Silver only if an Automatic card payment fails and this will kill his ability to play online. They did it to one of my pals and he had to make a new XBL account to play online again.

If Xbox are using a continuous card authority, then it will come through to the bank with that card number on it, so the bank should be able to tell you or am I missing something here.....

Go down to your bank (not on the phone - actually go there) with some ID etc and ask for your old card numbers.

They DO have these numbers and can give them to you - then you can contact MS.
