Argghh Asda Home Shopping price problems

Arghh wanted to make people aware of who buy their shopping online about their pricing policy......

Last night I ordered my shopping online for delivery this morning. All's good, lots of offers were on so I stocked up on a few things.
Had an email confirmation showing total price and amounts charged for each item.

However when my shopping was delivered today - the price was vastly different from the quote sent last night.
When I phoned to query it, I was told that ASDA are able to change their prices at ANY time and therefore I have to pay the price at the time of picking not at the price at the time of order

Sadly I am now quite out of pocket as I stocked up on lots of offers and now have paid doubled what they were yesterday (2 of the items were on offer yesterday for £2 each today charged at £3.98)

Please be aware ofthis when ordering online

Isn't this the same with any of the online shops (Sainsbury's, Tesco etc) where the price is only a guide price, and the actual cost will be on the day it is picked from the store sending the products.

Does Asda's shopping site (sorry, never used it!) give the expiry dates of offers like the "2 for £2"?

I always knew that you paid the price on the day of delivery (same as Argos reservations, it's as per day of collection); but you do have to check whether offers expire before your delivery date.

  • last time this happened, i complained to cutomer service and got a refund of the difference in price
  • Asda don't always show the end date of offers.

I have been caught out by it a couple of times, but then wised up and now only book my slot the day before I have it delivered, on a Sunday, that way, I don't get caught out.
  • I had the same problem, although not with offers. I placed my order last night for delivery tomorow morning. This evening I logged on to add a couple of bits and wondered why my total had gone up. At least 3 products had jumped in price, including some olive oil that was £1.85 last night and now £2.85 tonight, no offer, just change in price

This is a bit nasty, Asda don't always tell you when offers end or things on Rollback shoot back up to full price either! It is far from VERY clear. I don't think not having psychic abilities is stupid at all, more the kind of mistake anybody can make!

Agreed. I got caught out by this once when I was new to online shopping. You live and learn nobody is perfect. :naughty:
  • i stopped shopping at ASDA because they don't put expiry dates on their offers, sending back items that are not on offer when they are delivered defeated the purpose of paying for delivery when I have to go shopping again!

Other supermarkets clearly state when offers are to finish and I always check the dates. But ASDA lost my buisness...

Getting caught out by this is just plain stupidity on the OP's part.

Not a very supportive comment was it?

We've only recently started using home shopping. My partner's been doing it, so I've not noticed these terms, but I noticed when we got charge £7.98 for a bottle of wine! We only drink the cheap stuff!

Turns out Asda upped the price from £5 for Jacobs Creek Shiraz Rose before delivery (and bananas up by 6p). Buying our wine in Lidl in future. They didn't reply to my email, and are now claiming they can only deal with claims within 7 days. Shame on you Asda. ASDA BUYER BEWARE!

I'm disgusted they're allowed to get away with this. They're jumping on the internet shopping bandwagon without giving us the benefits. How would we feel if Amazon started charging different prices to our credit cards after we've ordered, and we don't find out 'til after delivery.

Shouldn't the OFT be looking into this?
  • Equally, though, if the price halves you get the cheaper price, not the price that was suggested online. You are clearly told that the price is a guide, and that it can go up and down.
