  • I to am a bit confused. If I am understanding you right you already have a Hitachi deskstar drive that is working but is to small for your needs? Is that correct? You are looking to 'upgrade' because you need a larger drive to store things?

If your original Hitachi deskstar is your primary drive which contains your OS why don't you just leave it and install another internal drive with a larger capacity? Doing this is actually beneficial anyway as you will have a separate physical drive for your operating system and another for your data.

I run my operating system from a drive that is only about 10Gb and just store all my stuff in other drives.

Agree. In fact I can't see that you can get away without using at least one internal drive. There are some Linux installations that you could get to work OK but to get Windows to install this way would be very hard, if not impossible.
