Hi, i'll try to be brief
i recently bought a faulty toshiba sat l450d.
basically it shows that power is getting thru as all lights glow.
when switching on i get the fan spinning for a few seconds, cd drive spins/opens etc, hard drive makes a faint sound so think that works.
the screen will not show anything and the system wont fully boot up.
tried using the vga(or whatever its called) cable to another monitor but still nothing. this seems to be a recurring problem as i've spent hours on net searching advice.
anyone kno what this could be? surely this cant be dead cos its not exactly dead(if ya kno what i mean)
another thing, when opening it up the usb ports have been hacked out. would these cause the whole thing to short out?
any help would be appreciated.
thanks

I have seen a similar issue on a dell desktop PC which had its USB damaged, the remaining part of the USB pins were shorting out which stopped the PC from booting.0

it has the pins/ solder still on the motherboard(but no port). would it be worth trying to solder them out completely? they are literally stumps and cant be touching each other.0

boot it from a cd of puppy linux or hiren's bootcd. That will show if most of the hardware is okay or not, if the hdd is goosed, etc. and take it from there

edit - if the USBs hacked are directly on the mobo then clear out any solder left around the old pins, very carefully, removing last traces of the pins in the process. It is highly possible that shorts in that area or anywhere else in the USB power or data lines/controller could be why it was being sold as spares/repairs in the first place.........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple
