The cars on the left were not undertaking. It is perfectly legal for a car to pass in the left lane if the car in the left lane is making normal progress and the right lane has slower moving traffic. Under taking is when you come up to someone to deliberatly undertake them and speed off.

Interesting way of looking at it. I'd say that 9 o'clock was 90 degrees and 3 o'clock was 270 degrees. But I guess you could say one was 90 degrees left and the other 90 degrees right.

For me it's because the term is "doing" a 180/360 which implies action on the part of the person changing direction.

Not changing direction (a 180 from your viewpoint) generally requires no specific action or change of direction. To perform a U turn requires you to rotate 180 degrees.

Ok a roundabout muddies the water a bit because you have to go left/right/left to go straight on, but the term is used elsewhere too so to me it doesn't make sense to change the angles just because it's a roundabout.

Suppose this thread was, for example, about someone pulling a U-turn in the middle of a main road with no warning, you'd say "They just stood on the brakes and did a 180", not a 360. The only way they'd be doing a 360 in that situation is if they were driving a 2.8i Capri. :)
  • I had a car in front of me the other night doing 38mph on a 60mph road. The interesting thing was that they also did 38mph through a village with a 30mph zone. I`m convinced that the people driving these cars like this have no idea at all of the other cars around them and are oblivious to the speed limits.

If you are only comfortable driving at 38mph at night on a 60mph road that makes me think your eyesight is shocking and that you should`nt be behind the wheel anymore. If you can`t keep up with the flow of traffic then you should`nt be out

    Ahh the infamous "40-everywhere" driver.

An unavoidable menace on today's roads.

I came across someone absolutely comical today.

I was following a car doing 35 in a 60. He had a "Brake" sticker on the back of the car. Fair enough, thinks I, the road wasn't exactly the kind you could reasonably do full speed on; 35 was a tad on the low side but at least the guy was thinking about what he was doing.

    Or so it seemed.

Reaching a 30 zone, he completely fails to slow down, leaving me (who had slowed down) for dead. I suspect he might actually have sped up.

So, a monospeeder who's apparently a member of Brake. Contemptuous.

He was obviously confused by those average speed cameras :rotfl::rotfl: ;)
