Change of line provider

I currently have my broadband with aol and phone line through BT.
My contract is due for renewal and I may be looking at taking my line rental with aol, if the deal is right.
A couple of questions:
1) If I change line provider form BT to aol is there any interruption in my service?
2) My BT line rental is paid a quarter in advance, how would I get a refund of the rental paid if I do change?
Thanks.

2) This is the answer I got from BT when I asked the same question:
Any charges paid in advance for the phone service will be refunded on the final invoice0
