yorkie98 - my wonderment is...why are you going to continue on with PowerNI when there are other cheaper suppliers about at the moment. You can switch.
Furthermore, regarding the price increase, nobody will get cheap electricity from PowerNI or any other supplier for that matter when the price rises. If you have put £20 in your meter for eg.2 days before the rise you will pay for it at that tarriff,When the price rises 2 days later you will pay for at the new risen tarriff,(in other words you will get less electricity for your money)even if you havent entered the 19 digit changeover code they will catch us all up and PowerNI will get what is theirs in the long run.
    sorry meant the 40 digit code,not 19:)

I'm considering changing to Budget energy, I'm just a bit lazy on issues like this sometimes..

My point though is that no matter what some think, it doesn't matter when or how much people top up, there will not be any savings made as when their next top up is made, even if it's several months after the last top-up is made, the meter will back calculate to 1st October and claw back the difference from the next top up.

So lets say I normally use £20 per week but on the 18/19th, I'm nearly out and knowing that tomorrow I will get the 40 digit powercode, I think I'll be smart, there's £120 in the bank, so I fire the whole lot onto the meter and pay a bit less off the credit card.. October 1st comes, meter still deducting from the credit at old rate, happy days!! for 6 weeks I'm paying the old rate, I'm so smart but here comes mid-november, my £120 is nearly all gone, time to top up again, £20 top up goes in with 40 digit powercode (they haven't forgotten) but hang on what's this, I just put in £20 but I only have £2 credit? well yeah, cos I've been underpaying by 15% (£3) per week for 6 weeks, so the meter has clawed back the £18 I owe it and now I need to put another £20 in (which I don't have as I went out on the booze last night) and to make matters worse, I underpaid on my credit card 6 weeks ago to shunt all the money into the meter so I got charged extra interest, so now I'm sitting here with a hangover, a credit card bill higher than it should be and only enough electric to last me into the morning, if I don't use the kettle much..

Yep, yorkie, thats exactly what i was trying to say.Hope others realise this fact.;)As for switching to Budget energy.Well its very easy.I am in the throws of the 10 day cooling off period with just another 4/5 days to go and cant wait.If there had been such a thing in N.Ire as switching i would have done so a long time ago.Cant believe how straightforward it was.I rang them, answered a few easy questions and received their welcome pack the next day.I have to add that you need to have at hand your electricity card and if you press number 9 on your keypad meter a set of numbers will come up which is your "meter reading" that they will ask you for...Its that easy.good luck and get going soon so you will save yourself a bit of money before PowerNI do actually raise their price.

Yorkie, please stop misleading people, they will no know how much you underpay

By "they" I presume you mean NIE/PowerNI, then you are right, "they" (the humans at NIE) will not know but the system will know that a 40/60 digit powercode is still due and will issue it when the next top up request is made no matter if it's a week, a month or a year after 20/09/11.
This powercode will tell the meter that the rate changes on 01/10/11 and the meter WILL back calculate and if there is an underpayment, it WILL claw it back. Do you not think that NIE have already thought of every possible trick in the book and made sure there's no way around it?
If anyone thinks I'm wrong, then do what 95% of all people in NI do anyway (whatever the hell they like) and pile as much money into your meter as you can afford and see what happens when you next top-up...

I've said all I'm going to say on this issue, I've given my advice, I'm not speculating or making this up, I'm telling it how it is and I don't have the time or effort to defend myself or try to save every NIE Keypad customer from themselves.
Everyone on here is an adult so from hereon in can make up their own minds. I can only help those who want to be helped..

All I'm saying the above WILL not happen. Will the meter back calculate if there is an overpayment (due a a rate decrease and key-ed in much later than rate decrease date?)

Loopholes are loopholes, even HMRC and credit card companies have loopholes.

No point to argue anymore, perhaps my meter is different than your meter. Do you even have a meter?
