Hi, I had never heard of Budget Energy, only airtricity and didn't like how they charge u £5 per top up by phone and no online top up. Can anyone tell me if Budget energy do keypad meters, do they do online top ups and is there a website anyone can direct me to for Budget energy? Many thanks

I've just gotten the letter from the NIE (or whatever they call themselves now) & in it states the average bill will increase by £1.75 a week...(I suppose they have to pay for the re-branding somehow without affecting shareholder profits)
That's an extra £7 a MONTH on the average bill...

Spike I think all NIE customers got that letter today, not even as much as a sorry on it either...arrogant gits. The rise is probably also to pay for the telly advert broadcasting their name change which i am sure cost a bomb to make. Not that its going to affect me now as i switched to Budget Energy the other day.

Thanks Hazel, are the any reviews for this Budget Energy,I've not heard of them before.
  • I'm in the cooling off period and am about to switch to Airtricity on the recommendation of my sister but I'll look into Budget first, thanks for the heads up folks! :)

Imagine NIE is a high street shop,a business opens next door selling the same product for less so what does the manager do?Lower prices and offer special deals to compete, right?Er,no,he increases his prices by 18.6% !???

Yes I know the other energy providers are tied into this rise but they're still cheaper and NIE (Power NI) should be trying to hold onto their customers surely? They boast in the letter of the 15% cut in 2009 but fail to mention the massive rate hike which preceded it!Silly them!

They're still behaving like BT a few years ago,a greedy child who's never had to share their bag of sweeties and can't comprehend that things have changed.

Finally, the "high world fuel costs" is all so much eyewash. It may well be true but isn't it peculiar that the escalation is always passed onto us but when there's a fall, the savings rarely are and only in minimal amounts? As with the petrol companies,it's a one way street, hard to believe the hauliers were (rightly) protesting at 80p a litre in 2000...ahhhh glory days. :)

I too received my letter from NIE. Had already looked at Airtricity but rejected it as savings made would be lost through £5 top up fee.

Had never heard of budget so have had a quick look. I'm on the keypad powershift and they don't seem to have an equivalent.

I did do a quick calculation (very quick due to having a birthday party for 9 year old going on) and think it might be worthwhile for me to change to budget, at their current tariff, taking into account the imminent NIE increase.

Has anyone heard if budget is going to increase their costs (I would assume they, and Airtricity, are likely to follow NIE's lead), or if they intend to introduce a powershift-like tariff?

    Thanks
