I've had my iphone 3gs for a little over 26 months.
I've had my daughter for a little over 10 months.
Tonight she decided my iphone (her favourite toy) should become a bath toy.
It was only in there for a fraction of a second, and is mostly working, but the speakers are knackered. Kinda defeats the object of a phone/ipod that you can't use for calls/music. I don't have any spare handsets anymore
I need a working phone as I have a small child who is heavily into mischief.
I *was* waiting for the 5 to come out (it's sooooooooooooo close!) but i need to do *something* before that now.
Can get a 4 on PAYG tomorrow and then either keep that or sell it when the 5 comes out. But I don't have a micro sim and I don't know how easy it is to switch from contract sim to PAYG micro sim.
I *could* visit the Apple Store tomorrow afternoon - I think there's some way of replacing through them but no idea how that works. Can also visit O2, but again I don't know how switching to micro sim works. I have Tesco, Carphone Warehouse etc locally.
Can anyone advise? I'm going round and round in circles here

You can cut a normal sim to a micro size:
- diy
- market stall
- a cutter from ebay

iphone + rice + Tupperware box = working phone0

apple do an out of warranty (OOW) replacement service, it is something like £170 and you get a new refurb model for your broken one. I would do that, then sell it to fund an iphone 5 if you wanted to.
to get an OOW replacement you just make an appointment with a genius and get it swapped, simple.
I would not buy an iphone4 on PAYG because it would come locked to a network (reducing resale) and you would never get all the money back so would be a waste getting an iphone 4 at this time.
your other option is just use a cheap basic phone for a couple/few weeks0 -
you might get it replaced for free at apple stores
Even when you are out of warranty / apple's warranty doesn't cover accidental and water damage anyway

Thanks for all the advice. My phone's speaker, amazingly, came back to life the following morning even though I did all the things you're not supposed to (kept it on, used it, charged it).
Then about a week later it died completelyEmergency trip to the Apple Store who replaced it for a shiny new one for £139 - somehow the water sensors hadn't tripped!
Trying to keep that one out of DD's mitts now. Plan is to get a 5/4S when it comes out and give the 3GS to my mum. Not looking forward to teaching her how to use it though!!:A MSE's turbo-charged CurlyWurlyGirly:AThinks Naughty Things Too Much Clique Member No 3, 4 & 5
