I'd reccomend London: South bank (near London bridge).
By the Vinopolis wine museum there are some very nice trendy pubs and wine bars - there is nothing better than sitting in the thames side inn, or the anchor on a balmy evening with a nice chilled glass of sauvigion blanc watching the thames and the world go by...
be aware though, Friday night is crammed full of the commuters etc, Saturdays are usually fine though.0 -
Chester- right mix of cheese, good resturants, pints for £1.20 or hollyoaks/footballer nights out. all in good walking distance- would vote for liverpool too- garlands is stil a real club0

There are travelodges and premier travel inns in the centre of Manchester which are right by the bars and nightlife. Would probably try them in the first instance if you're looking for something cheap.0
