Its usually only one person out of the couple that any tax credit entitlements run through so you should have been getting WTC through the same claim as she gets CTC through they dont seperate you they treat you as 'one' and use one NINO for the claim on system

That's what I wondered and maybe that's what's holding things up.

If the OP's partner is claiming TC for the family, surely she should ring with the new circumstances of the OP?

That's what I had to do when my husband was on a low wage a few years ago and we were entitled to both CTC and WTC.

I don't understand how OP's partner is claiming CTC for the household and the OP is trying to claim WTC?

    It's one claim per couple/family isn't it.

All we did was to ring them up with estimated earnings and they added the WTC on after about 6 weeks. Your partner should have rung up and asked for working tax to be added on. You didn't need to start a seperate claim.

    Hello all

6 months ago my employment contract ran out, I was working a standard 40hr week. Luckily enough the very next day I managed to find myself a job but it is only 16hrs a week, I took the job as I thought half a loaf is better than none.

I was receiving working tax credits when I worked 40hrs a week so I called them up to let them know of my change in circumstances. I was advised by the jb centre that I am not entitled jsa but I am entitled to working tax credit.

I made the initial call around the 13th of march and I still haven't received even a penny. I have called countless times but every time they tell me that it's been passed to head office for their decision.

I have four kids to provide for, I earn minimum wage x 16hrs. I am currently still looking for work with longer hours. Luckly my partner get child tax credits or we would be eating grass for dinner

I am in hardship and I was advised that head office can take as long as they want to make a decision. Please can someone give me some advice on how to speed things up as 6 months is a long time

    Thank you in advance

Hi it all depends on your annual income. Wtc is based on your total household income. The claims are based on last years income but if your circs change the claim will be recalculated but u do need to remember its worked from April to April so prevously u was working full time and your income was high n now your income is lower, they would still take in consideration the income u have already earned. So example u earned from Apr to the day u left work 10k n now ur partime jobs from the it starts to April is 7k. The 2 are added together and that what income needs to be given for your claim to be recalculated. What is your current year income?

@Shellsuit - she gets Child Tax Credits, I was advised by jobcentre that I won't get JSA because I work 16hrs but I will get WORKING TAX CREDITS

    My partner does not work

Don't always believe what the job centre tell u. Yes ur working lower hours and because u claim ctc u only need to wotk 16 hours but ur income for the year may b above the threshold for wtc

You need to check what estimated income they are using for your claim. It is usually based on last years income but you were working 40 hours then so if they still have your 10/11 P60 details on the claim you need to provide a new estimate for the current tax year.

Be aware though that WTC is tapered off completely on a household income of about £16 -£17K and if your household income this year is going to be more than that then you won't get any WTC at all.

The way Tax credits work is they include all the elements of WTC and CTC you are entitled to and then use your income to chop it down starting with the WTC elements first. The last element to be tapered is the Family element of CTC.

The job centre are correct in telling you you are entitled to have WTC included in your calculation but they don't know your total household income and they aren't required to have a working knowledge of how tapering occurs on a claim.
