Benidorm or Torremolinos?

My sister is going to take a holiday with her O/H next month and can't decide between Benidorm or Torremolinos.
They love the nightlife/cheap beer and sun type of holiday without spending a fortune - both options are working out at around £400 for both of them return flights and S/C accomodation.
They have been to Benidorm and loved it, but not to Torremolinos.
Anyone know if it compares favourably with Benidorm?

Torremolinos is not at all like Benidorm. what age are you ? Benalmadena is more suited ti a younger crowd as there is sol y mar - 24 hr square....a haven for the young late teen and 20ish.......
benalmadena is easy reached from torremolinos and is only a few miles away. where are you thinking of in Torremolinos ?0 -
just got back from benalmadena yesterday,it has 24hr square as said. have been to torremolinos in the past and prefer benalmadena or even fuengerola.i would imagine it will be quieter next month wherever your sister travels.has your sister considered tenerife. weather is usually good all year round0

My sister is 60, O/H 61. How does Torremolinos differ from Benidorm?
She imagined both would be wall to wall bars with loads of 1 Euro beer offers and plenty of night time entertainment.
She loves Benidorm, never been to Torremolinos and though it would offer the same as Benidorm in a different place.0 -
People either love or hate Benidorm but if you want the "Blackpool in Spain" holiday of cheap beer, night time cabarets and "proper English food" then Benidorm does it better than anyone. There's nothing remotely Spanish about it but know what you are going to get.
I've only passed through Torremolinos once but didn't think much of it and the town centre seemed quite tatty
Personally, I prefer Fuengirola. It attracts an older crowd than Benalmadena but it's nightlife is more geared towards bars and restaurants than live entertainment.0 -
Hi, I was interested to read this post so thought I would throw in a local perspective - I have lived in Fuengirola, Torremolinos and Benalmadena, and also covered Benidorm through my work in Tourism. Unfortunately there is still a misconception that Torremolinos is still the lager lout central of the 1990´s, but nothing could be further from the truth. Anyone expecting cheap bars and a huge British scene will be quite surprised if they come to Torremolinos, as this is a very traditional Spanish town, with pretty hidden squares, great street cafes where locals meet for a tapa or merienda, and some excellent shopping & open air entertainment around the main square. Regarding the "tattiness", the town hall has made significant investments in the town center, so we now enjoy newly paved streets and open spaces, with a much more cosmopolitan feel. The night scene is now concentrated on the chic beach bars of playamar and los alamos, and the younger tourist crowd on a budget would be better heading to Benalmadena Costa next door - here is where you will find British run bars and cheap all day breakfasts - in fact Benalmadena is cheaper to eat out, and there is much more of a concentration of Brits along the coast - it is a perfect destination for visitors with your Sisters profile who might want a change from Benidorm (which is far tattier than any of the places ive mentioned here on the Costa del Sol!)0

Thanks doshwaster and Lindsey. She can get cheap flights for either Malaga or Alicante, both under £100 for both of them return, but doesn't want to do Malaga for Torremolinos if there are no cheap all day beer offers!!
Benidorm is her all time favourite but she's been there three times in the last 15 months and fancied somewhere different for a change but with the same bars/entertainment on offer.0 -
we're going to Torremolinos for the first time in october - staying near the Carihuela area. Please could you suggest some tapas bars/restaurants where local people go Lindsay and also is there a place we might get some churros and chocolate? we're staying near the Avenida de Palma Majorca. Hope you can help as we love eating local spanish food0

The €1 beer is practically an extinct beast anywhere in Europe, certainly not to be found in tourist hotspots.0 -
