The PAYG v Contract query / debate.

A very common topic and one that many people think over when looking to get a new mobile phone.
I'm currently debating whether to stick on payg or move onto a contract.
I'm currently payg with orange and am looking to get a Blackberry Bold 9900.
This is currently retailing at approx £500, if I put on £10 per month for 24 months it costs me £740.
I can find contracts which come out slightly cheaper but there is always the danger of spending more when on a contract and the fear of a massive bill.
Thoughts please.
Thanks

If you go for the PAYG 100mb internet and free texts, you won't get may minutes for your £10. So, realistically, can you live with the minutes you get on the plan?
So if you go over, you will cop for a big bill. Everyone advises Giff Gaff and 3 too are much better for £10 per month.
Ask Orange what deal they will offer you as a current customer on sim-only.0 -
To help you with this, we're going to need to know how many minutes and texts you use.0

I currently top up £10, this gets me 400 text and 100mb internet. £5 comes straight off for my Blackberry service.
With the £5 which is left I buy 100 mins by texting MINS 5 6620.
Therefore for £10 I get 100 mins, 400 texts, and blackberry internet sevice.0 -
I've always gone with PAYG and bought handsets outright, the most recent being a Samsung Galaxy S for about £260.
Since I work from home and use VOIP over broadband so I don't actually need a "mobile", I want a "pocket PC" really. The "phone" aspect isn't used much. I send maybe 20 text messages a month and make perhaps 10 calls.
The other factors which come into play are 1. I don't use or permit direct debits on my bank accounts, 2. I don't want to get a bill the size of a car loan because I used it in Kent and it went roaming on a French network, or I downloaded "too much" data and 3. The idea of spending e.g. £30 a month on a mobile phone seems madness, but then, each to their own as it were.0
