Considering moving from O2 to three because it's a lot cheaper. Wise move or not??

I have been with O2 ever since I've had a phone, except for 1 year when I foolishly changed to Virgin. I say foolishly because wherever I went there was hardly a signal for my iPhone. That was 3 years ago. I am now back with O2 but my SIM only contract is now up for renewal. So, I have comparing SIM only deals and discovered that !three.co.uk have some cracking deals. In fact their deal of £25 pm for 2000 mins, 5000 texts, unlimited data is right up my street. However, this is MUCH cheaper than other providers. They even boast!being the largest 3G network in the UK.!
Am I missing something here?
This deal seems too good to be true!
And judging by their boasts I assume I will get a better network coverage than I do with O2?
Am I being thick or is this really a good deal?
Ps.. I noticed there is no mention of MMS messages with this deal!
Please someone convince me that three have a better coverage than O2 and this deal is a beauty.!
Thanks all!

Obviously the network coverage is going to be dependent on your home location (or "most likely to use" location - if this is more applicable).
Personally, when I had a phone with 3, I had no problems whatsoever with their network - in fact where I live, their network is probably one of the best coverage-wise. The downside with 3, is their increasing lack of a 2G back-up network - as everywhere they feel that they have adequate network coverage, they are switching off their backup 2G service with Orange.
No network will guarantee you service 100% of the time - but when looking for a new contract, I always check both my home location, and the place that I am most likely to need to use my phone (ie the office and travelling points in between)0 -
Invest in a 3 £10 PAYG sim and give it a thorough test before you commit to any contract.0

This is very sensible advice, %population or %geographic coverage mean nothing if you can't get a signal because 3G is less penetrating than 2G or you are in a blackspot or fringe reception area.0 -
If you are thinking of joining 3. You might want to try this deal first. No line rental you just pay for the calls you make. As its a monthly rolling contract no top up is required .

The only things I have ever heard about 3 is how bad their reception is.
My friend has 3 , and said its all well and good having all the free minutes but if you cant get a signal to use them....She cant wait to get rid of it.
I have a sim only from 02, costs me £10 a month and I get a ton of free texts and calls, admittedly I dont use the internet on my phone though so couldnt tell you about that.
I would definitely go with the advice of getting PAYG sim first.0 -

Takes about 1-2 weeks to arrive :-)0 -

So how would you test the services, without adding credit? Far easier to buy one in a shop with £10 credit or wait for delivery and then top up.0 -

Spot on advice from Tony here.
I ditched O2 because a lot of places I visit regularly had no signal with O2 and yet I could see others happily using their phones. So I started asking around and found that a lot of people were using T-Mobile/Orange in those areas. The man without a signature.0 -
The easiest way to compare coverage is to check what reception you get from 3/tmob/orange who all network share and then from o2/voda who use each others networks which ever provide the best reception coverage and speed would be the winner.0

I used to have a 3 phone and miss the coverage (pretty good round here) but I wouldnt touch them again and definitely wouldnt recommend them to anyone else. However its not difficult to get better network coverage than O2. Im on Tesco Mobile and the signal is shocking.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200
