my 8 year old payg t-mobile phone has died just after I topped it up by £30 to allow for possible emergancies on holiday in France. I have now ordered an unlocked phone and intend to get a giff-gaff sim for it. Is there anyway of getting my credit back from t-mobile or should I just use it up in the new phone?

So the best I can do is about 60% of the value from the cash back site? I need to do some more sums and see if the alternatives cost less than 60% of what t-mobile will charge me, if not I'll just use the credit and charge when it has gone.

Even at 60% of face value, cash it in.

£30 t mobile credit gets you either
    - 120 minutes at 25p if you're on the text tariff OR
    - 150 minutes at 20p if you're on the talk tariff OR
    - 300 texts at 10p if you're on the text tariff OR
    - 250 texts at 12p if you're on the talk tariff OR
    - £18 cash via the cashback service

£18 cash turned into giffgaff credit gets you
    - 225 minutes at 8p/min before the giffgaff price increase OR
    - 180 minutes at 10p/min after the giffgaff price increase OR
    - 450 texts at 4p/each before the giffgaff price increase OR
    - 300 texts at 6p/each after the giffgaff price increase OR
    - the option to use credit to buy goodybag bundle(s)

However, if you are not looking at the goodybag options with giffgaff, consider icardmobile instead (6p/min mobiles, 3p/min landlines, 5p/texts).

icardmobile rates seem very good whilst in the UK, but the OP wanted to use the phone in France.
