It's a very good point about WAP - and i'm going to sneak it in the article now! Thank you!

  • Nearly everybody on here has internet access. Obvious? So why do we all keep banging on about the cheapest Directory enquiries? Go to BT website, register and get numbers for free. Jack

I can think of a few reasons:

    1. You can only get a limited number of free enquiries per day on BT.COM!

    2. It's a pain switching on the computer for one DQ enquiry!

    3. If you are outside with only a mobile (without WAP access)

However, I would agree that a web-based International DQ service may be the only way to get overseas numbers for free - unless anyone knows better?
  • another free way to get directory enuiries on the web is
    118118.com

Does anyone know how to find out how much it costs to use 118848 from a mobile (in my case Orange contract)? I've looked on both the sites Martin suggests (marcuskern.com/info/118.htm and (www.118tracker.com/) and that particular number isn't listed.

Until now, AFAIK best value for me has been the Orange DQ service, but I can use 118848, and would use it if I knew which was better (on the rare occasions I need to do so).

Come to that, can't find out how much it costs from a Telewest line, which is what we have at work.

    Savvy-Sue:

Ifg you are on Orange Contract you can probably make use of the free OneTel DQ service!

If your Orange contract allows you to make free calls to freefone numbers (most Orange contracts do) then sign up your landline with OneTel's override service (NOT CPS) and register you mobile with OneTel as well! That way you get free DQ on both landline and mobile!

If your Orange contract does not allow free calls to freefone numbers but you do have free minutes then still sign up with OneTel's override service and use the geographical number to access the OneTel override service.

I hear that from next Monday 100% of Onetel directory calls will be dealt with in New Delhi - free for some yes but if you have to call 5 times to be understood & understand it wears thin very quickly

Tesco Home Phone users get free directory enquiries on 118 321 provided you call from a landline registered as a Tesco Home Phone number.
  • I just posted this on the mobile board as well, but Google do an SMS search function - basically DQ (and much more) for the price of a text.

    Information here: http://www.google.co.uk/sms/

    (sorry for the double post)

Dramatic title but, widely enough publicised, THIS certainly could be!
Their - possessive pronoun (owned by them e.g. "They locked their car").
    They're - colloquial/abbreviated version of 'They are'
There - noun (location other than here e.g. "You can buy groceries there") OR adverb (in or at that place e.g. "They have lived there for years") OR adverb (to or towards that place e.g. "Go there at noon") OR adverb (in that matter e.g. " I agree with you there").
