  • My contract with 02 is due for renewal so I called them up today. So very unhelpful and even when I requested the PAC code, they were quite happy to give it to me without trying to retain my 6 years of loyalty!

I am not a happy bunny this morning especially after reading all the good contract deals that people from this site had got, and they couldn't offer me anything better on a 12 month contract apart from same as what I am on now - 200 minutes and 500 txts for £30 p/m. With £100 cash back instead of handset. I need more minutes than texts but they wouldn't play ball. Apparantly, even though I am currently on an online deal from last year, they say I am not an online customer.

One odd thing came up in the conversation. I asked about the monthly SIM only contract cos I am planning on being out of the country for about 6 months later this year and want to use local sim cards when I am travelling. They refused to give me the same deal as the online offer for SIM only and then when I said ok, I will cancel my 'non on-line contract' and become a new customer to get that deal, they said ok but I couldn't transfer my number! He didnt know why but said not able to transfer between non online and online.

    What shall I do?

Just off the phone to O2. Better offer than a couple of days ago which was a really stupid-who-would-want-that-offer.

    Offer today was
    100gbp credit
    200 xnet min
    400 txt
For 25gbp a month (5gbp discount of the usual 30gbp)
Supposedly this is just keeping me on the same tariff with extra bolt on that I am currently on for 15gbp a month. The O2 200....which doesn't exist anymore.

I asked about using my inclusive txt from abroad and was told I couldn't use them and couldn't currently use them - aload of rubbish. I am currently using them (1 txt = 4 credits).....

Anyway, 25gbp is still more than i want to pay especially when I know what other people have received for 15gbp. I'd be relatively happy if I got the same deal for 15gbp as I don't think I'll be able to push for any more txts -- am abroad at the moment so my phone usage is minimal, or at least thats what their system says!

You could always ring up o2 CS again and press the number for "Thinking about leaving" (Retentions I think this is) and see what they will offer. Hang up if you don't like the offer and repeat again, hopefully with another agent.

Have you read through this thread?

If however, you are not offered the same or a better deal (i.e. you want the online offer), then you can get your PAC. Port your number onto another network temporarily, like Orange etc (there are many free PAYG sims available on the freebies board). (Make sure your account is still active when you are using the PAC as your number may not be transferred otherwise). Once you're on another network request your PAC. When you sign up for the o2 online deal, tell them you want to use your PAC to keep your number and it should be sorted for you.

The reason why you have to port your number onto another network whilst keeping your existing number, is that networks won't allow you to keep your number whilst taking up a deal on the same network.
  • Same happened to me. I renewed my contract last year, using the tips on this site, got a great deal. Had to pay £20 for handset but got £10 a month line rental for 100 mins and 500 texts. This week I was told I'd have to pay £59.99 to upgrade to Nokia N73 (free to new online customers) and pay £25 a month for 18 months. I know there are better deals out there so i called back today and asked for my PAC code. They offered me the same deal, I said no and they gave me the code. Very annoyed. Want the N73 for free!

The days of amazing £10-£15 per month deals for 500 + Mins and Texts are gone due to a new computer system which decides if your a profitable customer for the network, if not then O2 will now happily give you a PAC Code

Well here's a turn up for the books! My girlfriend has rang up twice and almost forced to get her PAK code. Originally, when she rang up all she wanted was the Samsung D900 for free, she wasn't bothered about lower line rental / increased allowance. The first guy she spoke to said no way so she said she'd think about it. The next person she spoke to told her no chance and willingly offered her the PAK code. However, she decided to cancel not port so sent a letter off, she rang up today to see if they'd received the letter. They asked why she was leaving so she told them what she could get with Orange and out of the blue they offered her 100mins/700 texts with a free D900 on 12month contract for £25 pcm.

So you can still barter with O2, maybe not like you used to be able to but its still possible!

    Nice One!!
  • When I renewed last year I got 200 xnetwork mins / 500 txts for £15/month.
I phoned the retentions team and was told that this deal would go up to £20/month if I renewed or:
    400mins / 500 txts for £25/month..
    oh.. and a free K800i...
Is there anything else I can ask for - or do ya reckon this is the best I'll get?
Should I try and ask for 500mins/500txts for the £25?

Yeah I would- I'm on 25 quid for 500 minutes and 500 texts and my contract started in April. If you are a heavy texter try and get them to add on say 250 and see what they say- it's likely so long as you use your phone enough you'll get it.
