Nope - we're stopping paying as soon as we're out - which will in fact net us a 4 day rebate, although that will apparently take a little longer to sort out).
If we still had to pay for 2 more months, we'd be staying put. Can't afford to pay rent at two places at once...
Edited to add: Sorry - I just realised I mistyped my post above - I meant two months notice, not two months rent. Will edit to make it clear :-)0 -
The contract did contain ground 1 notice, so we had at best two months (we might have been able to challenge it and stayed until the 6 month point, but that would only have been 3.5 months anyhow). We found another place....
Thanks for coming back and giving an update. It's good you've found somewhere else you're happy with.
For the benefit of anyone else reading this who's in a similar situation, my understanding is that the "Ground 1" notice couldn't have been used to obtain a court order for possession during the fixed term of the contract, whatever the agents may have said. Of the grounds in Part I of Schedule 2 of the Housing Act, only Ground 2 and Ground 8 can be used during the fixed term. See Jeffrey's post upthread.0 -
Good to hear you arrived at a decent compromise.0
