Getting sellers 2 verify paypal accounts?

Been looking to buy an item from ebay for the last few weeks in the region of £1000.
Quite a few around but for some reason none of the sellers seem to have verified paypal accounts. Don't think there necessarily fraudtsers but would feel a lot more comfortable dealing with buyer protection (particularily as no CC at the moment).
Thinking I may contact the sellers explaining this and seeing if they would get there accounts verified before I made payment.
But wondering at what point buyer protection actually kicks in i.e if an ebay auction starts and ends without the buyer protection logo ever appearing but the paypal acccount is subsquently verified would I be covered?

Buyer protection doesn't apply unless feedback is of a very high standard... 98%, I believe.
I don't think verification has any relevance here.My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
I'm sort of in the middle of verification, but the merchant stuff has all these crazy questions about your type of business and what you sell (wheres the option for "any old crap I find because I need the cash"?) and it smells like tax to me! Which I'm not interested in0

Pretty sure it does - in fact 98% certain it does :+)
For the first £500 anyway.0 -
I tried to find some kind of info on the paypal help and drew a blank.... could only find stuff referring to feedback.
I am 99% sure you have to have a certain NUMBER of feedbacks as well as a high %. I have sub 100 feedback but 100%, and have buyer protection. I'm verified, but I did this a long time ago. It's the 2 payments to the bank account.... I can't see how that would be relevant to your trustworthiness as a seller :rolleyes:My TV is broken!

For some reason I think you have to have 10 feedback plus having done all the verifying your account stuff...I only say that as I have just set up a new ebay account for the Olympic Challenge which is seperate to the one me and my husband use normally. I am using the same paypal account - which has been verified for years - but because I have no feedback at the moment it is not classed as verified yet. I am sure I read that I when I get 10 feedback it changes. Will try and find it later.0

You need 98% feedback for the buyer protection to be valid but you still need the account verified to be able to offer £500 buyer protection in the first place.
2 payments to a bank account = verified account = buyer protection = I'm covered for £500!0 -

That's something I didn't know. So I need to look for sellers with feedback over 98% more than 10 feedback and prepared to verify there accounts. Still need the answer to the original question though ;+)
Also just had another thought as the seller will be recieving £1000+ payment from me won't they be taken over there paypal recieving limit so will have to get their account verified anyway?
So similarily how does a subsequent verification (after auction end) affect buyer protection status?0 -
I think it's actually 98.5% seller f/b for a buyer to have protection under paypal.;)"There is a light that never goes out"0

If the listing doesn't have buyer protection, I wouldn't count on it applying if the buyer then gets verified.
Bear in mind PP suggest allowing 2-5 days to complete the process!
Why not fund the payment with your credit card... this will give you some protection the listing lacks. My TV is broken!

Like I said I don't have a CC at the moment.
And if the seller needs to get verified to recieve the payment anyway (because they go over there limit) they could start the verification process at the beginning of auction when I contact them.
What I'm trying to establish is if Ebay and Paypal function as seperate entities when it comes to buyer protection?
i.e If the account is verified when I pay is it irrelevant wether the buyer protection logo ever appeared on the actual ebay listing or not?0
