Log Splitter Hydraulic Oil

Hi
I've just had my wood burning stove installed and can't wait for the first time we light it. To help with splitting the logs I decided to buy a log splitter from a well known auction site.

The splitter was listed as used condition but when I went along to collect it the owner had drained the Hyraulic Oil from it:mad: not sure why!!il

The manual recomends Mobil DTE11 or equivalent, but i'm having trouble finding it. Can anyone suggest other Hydraulic oil's thay may be suitable?? will there be a problem with it having been left drained? I'm assuming it hasn't been used whilst empty:eek:
The log splitter is a Titan Pro.
Thanks for any advice.

    Hi there,

Perhaps the Hydraulic oil was shot, which does happen? Google "industrial oil supplier" around your area, Halfruads is a possibility too. Don't leave it too long tho, dont want the seals to dry out!

Enjoy your new stove, ours is simmering away tonight

The last time the owner used the splitter was November would it be a major problem if the oil was drained then?? I tried Halfords today but they only sell there own brand so it's hard to know which one is compatible. One guy I spoke to suggested someting like comma, lec10 any thoughts on that? do you think it would be ok as it's for fork lift trucks etc?

I hope I haven't bought a dud as it was not cheep. Thanks for your reply

Looking at this, thanks for the link. My log splitter is a 240 Hydraulic log splitter, that oil is for a hand pump hydraulic would this make any difference?

I'm no expert on Hyd oil, but for our use, I reckon any not too thick hydro spec oil will be good to go, re; seals, should be fine.

Mobil DTE11 is a low viscosity oil, so is the Halfords one.
They're both a vegetable based bio degradeable oil, so there should be no problems with the seals (providing they're ok to start with), and no adverse reactions.
It's not a safety critical application, like a braking or lifting application, I think I'd give it a go.
