Did you download the 3 listed before going to update centre?

Sorry dogmary I tried to do that and appear to have made a complete and utter mess of it,the two network things I had in my computer programs have now disappeared so I tried again to install the updates and it came up with "NOT NEEDED"

    Follow dogmaryxx post timed at12:58.

Now that you have cleaned out/removed the Net framework Applications they will not be there to update.

You need to reinstall them and then run any necessary updates.

  • bermary, I also have had this apparently widespread problem with these recommended updates, plus KB2539636 (marked important). Got so fed up with the reminder to update that I 'hid' them about a month ago. Your post made me dig around for a solution again (already wasted a lot of time trying to solve this). Anyway, this time I found simple speedy solution on Microsoft site.

    "Answer
I had this problem over the weekend Aug 13th so raised a support ticket on Sunday 14th and had reply overnight on Monday 15th which fixed the problem which seems to have been caused by my User Account Control (UAC) setting.

    • In essence I had to turn UAC off - key UserAccountControlSettings.exe into the Start Search bar and press enter
    • Move the slider to the 'Never notify' position and press enter
    • Restart my system
    • Apply the updates
    • When the updates finished reapply my original UAC settings
I am more than satisfied with Microsoft's response."

I have just done the above, it worked, and all three .NET Framework 4 updates now installed. Simples!

Yes raine day I think I have used that method before but don't think it was for updates with the same error code number.

If you are in a muddle and want to try what worked for me (see above post) then restore your computer to a time before you altered everything and the .NET Framework 4 will be as it was.
Control Panel - System Security - Action Centre

Edited to add: we posted at same time. I didn't even get an error code, just a message that updates hadn't installed, but that solution worked.
