First check you have the .NET Framework 4 or the Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile installed.

  • Microsoft says this
Search for the installation error code in the Windows Update Troubleshooter

Step 1: Locate the installation error code

First, we will ask you to locate the installation error code that your computer recorded when the installation failed. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, click All Programs, and then click Windows Update or Microsoft Update.
    2. On the Windows Update Web site or on the Microsoft Update Web site, click Review your update history. A window opens that shows all the updates that have been installed or that have failed to install on the computer.
    3. In the Status column of this window, locate the update that failed to install, and then click the red X.
A new window opens that displays the installation error code.
    4. Note the error number. You will have to type or paste the error number in a search box in the next step.

So go through these and post the error number here, someone will be able to help

  • You could try Microsoft 'Fixit'. Go to http://support.microsoft.com/fixit/ and then click on 'Install or upgrade software or hardware' and then go to 'Automatically diagnose and fix common problems with Windows Update' and follow the instructions. Hopefully it may work.

You need to follow these instructions

    Repair the .NET Framework
To repair the .NET Framework, you must uninstall multiple versions of the .NET Framework by using the .NET Framework Cleanup Tool, and then reinstall the components.

To do this, follow these steps:

Click the following link to download the .NET Framework Cleanup Tool:

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/arc...8/8904493.aspx

Use the .NET Framework Cleanup Tool to uninstall the .NET Framework versions 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, and 3.5

Note The cleanup tool does not let you remove the .NET Framework 2.0 in Windows Vista or later versions because the .NET Framework is installed as an operating system component.

    Restart the computer.

Download and install the following components:

    .Net Framework 1.1

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...7-034d1e7cf3a3

    .Net Framework 1.1 SP1

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

    .NET Framework 3.5 SP1

Note This will also install .Net Framework 2.0 SP2 and .Net Framework 3.0 SP2

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

    Restart the computer.

Visit the Windows Update Web site and install the updates:
