Silly Smiley Question

I hope that this is the correct part of the forum to post this and I know that is sounds really stupid but it has been bugging me ever since I joined this site. I see posts where people put smileys into their text, but I just can't figure out how to do it. Any help PLEASE.

Go into Quick Links (just underneath your name) go to edit options and scroll right down to the bottom box, change that from basic to enhanced.

Firstly make sure your in 'enhanced interface '

click on

quick links.........just under your name at the top

edit options.................scroll down to the bottom

change the last option to 'enhanced interface '

then when you reply to a post you will see the smiley option on the top of your reply box ( a big smiley face)

click this a pick a smiley

While we are on the subject of technical stuff

would anyone be kind enough to explain what the red triangular symbol means that comes up on the bottom left hand side of some messages and also why some have a green light on and some don't.
Am I being daft? I'm sure this is all explained somewhere and I just can't find the relevant instruction page.

Welcome to the boards Moorpasture

The red triangle is the abusive post button. If it is clicked an email addressed to MSE abuse controller appears. You never see them on your own posts because we are not expected to report ourselves, (thought there hjave been those who have tried!).

The green light means that the poster is on line.

Don't worry about asking questions, we all do and there are some very helpful people here.

You might find a browse through This Site usefull. I did, still do.
