Macbook Pro. If you don't like OS X then stick Windows 7 on it. The build quality and durability is better than pretty much every consumer grade laptop.

£800 would barely buy you an entry-level Macbook Pro. And the build quality isn't that great, people just like to think it is.

Unless you're buying a Mac for OS X, then you're better off buying an equivalent spec Dell/Asus/HP laptop for a lower price and equal or (sometimes) better build quality.

Got a vast experience of the majority of the range of the laptop market in the UK have you?

Yes Dell do have laptops with better build quality. They are, without exception, their business class ones that cost in excess of £1200. For £850 you'll get one that has a plastic case instead of solid aluminium that isn't built as well as an entry level MBP.

Same story with HP and Acer.

Millions of people seems to cope with "consumer grade" laptops, paying £100's of pounds extra for a sturdy case is pointless, just look after it.
