New Laptop Recommendations - £800ish Budget

Hi All,

Am looking to get a new laptop with a budget of around £700 - £1000. Ideally through a retailer offering interest free credit or buy now pay later for 9+ months or so.

Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

what are you going to use it for and what specs do you want, £800 is a lot of money to spend on a laptop if all you want to do is look at facebook and check your email.

Check out the Dell website and look at their XPS range. (the Dell customer service is a bit rubbish though)

Something wrong with the one you have?

The budget is high unless you are a gamer.

The one I currently have failed - Sony Vaio VGN-FZ38M... am suing Shasonic Centres Ltd under the Sale of Goods Act as it has been confirmed it has the Nvidia Defect. Hopefully if I win I should get a fair chunk to put towards it.

I don't think my budget is particularly high - Gaming is just one thing I will be using it for. Also for work I run lots Microsoft .Net Framework type stuff. I'd also like it to last for 2-3 years before I need a replacement.

Dell service is definitely rubbish. I ordered a refurbished Dell laptop more than a week ago and tried asking some query about the specs, the phone lines said they can't comment on the dell outlet specs and to send an email, sent an email more than a week ago but no response, called again as I had ordered it online, but again was told to email them instead.

now got delivery of a laptop with a Spanish keyboard, the specs didn't say it came with a Spanish keyboard. called help line but was told to call on Monday as relevant dept closed on weekend. so will be day 4 after delivery before I can even contact someone to get this sorted or ask for a refund.

may be a bit cheaper brand but a lot lot cheaper customer service too.

Trackpad left one third can't initiate tracking but will track when started elsewhere.

But the specs are good IF they can sort out the keyboard and trackpad issues. Core I7 2630qm, 8gb RAM, led hd screen, 2 USB3 ports, 1 USB2 port, another eSATA/ USB port that can be used for powering devices when laptop off.1gb NVIDIA GeForce 525m card, 640gb, dvd/cd r/w , HDMI, Ethernet, WiFi b/g/n + Bluetooth, card reader, webcam and usual stuff. Will be a good buy if they can sort the problems out otherwise will seek a refund. And buy from elsewhere but no chance I will get this spec for 518£. Only reason to buy at the dell outlet website, but expect rubbish service.

You could get 2 or 3 decent laptops for that price, and I'd expect them to last a lot longer than 2-3 years - gaming machines = more heat, more problems.

Macbook Pro. If you don't like OS X then stick Windows 7 on it. The build quality and durability is better than pretty much every consumer grade laptop.
